Vario Pro

Vario Pro is a complete barometric variometer for sailplane soaring. Climb and sink are read straight from the watch's pressure sensor — never from GPS, so there is no lag and no phantom climb from a wandering satellite fix. READING THE AIR A large climb readout and a segmented tape show the instantaneous rate at a glance. Beside it, a 20-second average tells you how a thermal is really working rather than what it did half a second ago. A Response setting — Fast, Medium or Slow — sets how much the needle is smoothed, so you can trade a steadier reading against a quicker one. AUDIO Climb and sink tones let you fly heads-up: rising pitch and quicker beeps as the lift strengthens, a low steady tone for sink, silence in between. This is the half that keeps your eyes outside the cockpit. ALTITUDE AND THE FLIGHT Altitude reads in metres, feet, or as flight levels alongside them. QNH is set by hand, to standard, or by calibrating to a field elevation you know. The flight is recorded to Garmin Connect with its GPS track. REQUIREMENTS A watch with a barometric altimeter. A phone running Garmin Connect with an internet connection is needed once, to activate. Nothing else: the variometer itself runs entirely on the watch. SAFETY A recreational aid.
