Plus codes

Plus codes give you a short reference to your location - easier to use than latitude and longitude. Tell someone where you are! Plus codes were designed to provide an address-like solution for the areas of the world where street addresses do not exist or are not widely known. This makes them ideal when you're away from roads, for activities like geocaching, orienteering or hiking. They give you a short reference that's easier to remember, say or write down. This datafield continuously displays the plus code for your current location. All it requires is a GPS signal - it doesn't need a phone or bluetooth. The code precision is approximately 14 x 14 meters. If the GPS signal is poor or lost, the code will fade. Codes are displayed with the first four digits (the area code) small, and the remaining digits (the local code) larger. (See the screenshots for examples.) To tell someone where you are, if they are within about 30 km (20 miles), you can just say "8FXR+QH". If they are further away, add a nearby town or city "8FXR+QH Zurich". Or you can tell them the full code "8FVC8FXR+QH". You can enter codes into Google Maps or the demo site, https://plus.codes. Plus codes are free and the software is open source.
