About

If you want "big power" this is the datafield for you! This datafield displays your power data using the biggest possible number size to fill up the available space. Optionally, the background color will change according to your current power zone. Install the app from the ConnectIQ app and add the BigPower datafield to a screen profile. You can find BigPower inside the ConnectIQ list when adding a datafield. In your screen profile, choose the nunber of datafields that you want and select BigPower in the biggest available space. This will make the power number easy to find and easy to read. No space is wasted on a label or units. The datafield automatically adjusts to the number of digits in your power output: 1-3 digits or even 4 digits! Please see the "what's new" section for a description of the available settings and features. Edge computers are almost always used in a portrait orientation. But it is also possible to mount the Edge cycling computer rotated by 90 degrees to give a landscape orientation. If you set up a screen profile with a single datafield, BigPower will then give you the biggest possible power nunber!! Even if you are using portrait mode and multiple datafields on the screen, BigPower will still be able to make your power number bigger and stand out better on the display. Some things to note for landscape mode: 1. Look down at your mount - if there are two small screws facing upwards, you can undo them and rotate the inner part of the mount by 90 degrees. This changes the tab alignment so that you can mount your Edge rotated. You want the Edge power button at the top right (from the cyclist's perspective). 2. None of the other datafields, screens or Garmin menus will be rotated, so keep that in mind! 3. The Edge screen is POLARIZED, so if you also wear polarized sunglasses you won't be able to see anything on the display in the rotated orientation. Sorry, this just doesn't work. If you have questions, feedback or ideas for other features, please send an email to [email protected] Also, please take a look at our other apps at https://lapdeltapro.com BUY ME A COFFEE? I've been using Garmin devices for a long time and started writing ConnectIQ apps to provide some missing features that I wanted for my training and racing. I think they will be useful to other Garmin users so I've been releasing them through the ConnectIQ store. If you would like to support and encourage this work, please feel free to buy me a coffee. It would be much appreciated! https://buymeacoffee.com/biketelemetry

What's new

VERSION HISTORY 1.8 - add a setting to display using an alternative color map 1.7 - lighten gray in dark mode, and use anti-aliased power icon 1.6 - improve color scheme and add optional power icon 1.5 - background color indicates current power zone 1.4 - performance optimizations 1.3 - reduce memory usage to support older Edge devices 1.2 - start displaying power on the first non-zero power sample 1.1 - bug fixes and display improvements 1.0 - first released version of BigPower SETTINGS The following options are available through the settings page on the ConnectIQ app: 1. Screen Orientation: you can choose between: (a) Portrait: the standard Edge orientation. (b) Landscape: if you want to mount the Edge in a sideways orientation. (c) Automatic (default): the datafield will choose the mode automatically based on the aspect ratio of the datafield on the screen. This is the default since it generally does the right thing. 2. Smoothing (1-60s): power can be smoothed (averaged) over 1 to 60 seconds. The default is 3 second smoothing. 3. Display Mode: this switches BigPower between light mode and dark mode: (a) Automatic (default): BigPower will follow the device's setting. (b) Light Mode: BigPower will use light mode regardless of the device's setting. (c) Dark Mode: BigPower will use dark mode regardless of the device's setting. 4. Show Power Icon (default enabled): this enables or disables a small power-bolt icon to indicate that this is a power datafield. 5. Power Zones: this determines whether BigPower changes the background color to indicate the current power zone: (a) Off (default): power zones are disabled. (b) Percentage of FTP: power zones are enabled, and the Z1-Z7 maximum values are specified as a percentage of FTP. This is convenient since the percentages can be set up once, and then only the FTP number needs to be adjusted if that changes. (c) Watts: power zones are enabled, and the Z1-Z7 maxumum values are specified in Watts, and the FTP value is ignored. 6. Alternative Colors (default disabled): when enabled, background and font colors are modified as preferred by some users. 7. FTP (1-1000W): specifies the FTP in units of Watts (default 300W). This is used only if "percentage of FTP" is enabled. 8. Z1-Z7 Color: the color of each power zone can be selected independently using drop-down menus. The default settings are gray, blue, green, yellow, orange, red and purple (from Z1 to Z7). Different shades are used for light mode and dark mode. 9. Z1-Z7 Maximum: the maximum power for each power zone is specified here (range is 1-3000W). These can be interpreted as percentages or Watts based on the "Power Zones" setting. The default values are intended for use as percentages of FTP. You can interpret the zones as follows: Z1 color is used until the Z1 maximum is hit, then Z2 color is used until the Z2 maximum is hit, and so on. More precisely, the power zone is the lowest numbered zone where the current power is less than or equal to that zone's maximum value. Note that the Garmin device's color palettes are limited, particularly on Edge devices prior to the 550, 850 and 1050 generation. The color mappings have been chosen to be the best available. It may be necessary to increase screen brightness to improve legibiility or change the alternative colors settings.
