PCH Alert+
· v2.49
About
PCH Alert+ is a Connect IQ data field that monitors power, cadence, heart rate, and W′bal—estimated remaining anaerobic work capacity—while riding. Alerts for high power, low cadence, high heart rate, and low W′bal use colors, sounds, and screen inversion.
Display power with lap average power, W/kg, or W′bal (%), plus ANT+ left/right pedal balance when supported.
【Alerts】
• Power: Set four thresholds and colors. Levels 3/4 support sounds and repeat intervals; level 4 can invert the screen. Alerts use current power, regardless of display averaging.
• Low Cadence: Sounds below the cadence threshold when power is at or above Power Gate. It remains silent when pedaling stops.
• High Heart Rate: Sounds at or above the selected threshold.
• Low W′bal: Sounds when remaining capacity reaches the selected percentage. Valid W′bal data is required.
【Display and Touch Controls】
Choose a 1, 3, 10, or 30-second power average. Main modes are Power/Lap Average, Power/W/kg, and Power/W′bal %. Lap average includes decimals and supports laps and workout steps. W/kg uses displayed power and configured weight.
Larger layouts show related values and either a PB Graph or W′bal % Graph. Background, number size, and label are customizable.
On touchscreen models, tap before recording or while manually stopped to change modes. Tap while recording or during Auto Pause to mute/resume all alerts. Measurement and FIT recording continue while muted.
【Pedal Balance】
View ANT+ left/right balance as numbers and a colored bar using a 3, 10, 30, or 60-second average. The graph enlarges L40/R60 to L60/R40; numbers remain accurate outside it.
【W′bal and CP Learning】
W′bal falls above Critical Power (CP) and recovers below CP, including during pauses. View it as a percentage and color-changing bar with a low-level alert.
Calculations use your best 3, 5, 12, and 20-minute average power. Choose manual or app-learned values. CP Learning updates them during recorded activities. Manual values can seed learning; results can be reviewed or reset. New results apply from the next activity. Incomplete or invalid values show “--%”.
Valid W′bal is recorded automatically and shown as a Garmin Connect chart.
【Power Scale and FIT Recording】
Power Scale adjusts power from −10.0% to +10.0% in 0.5% steps. It affects display, alerts, lap average, W/kg, CP Learning, and W′bal.
When correction is used, original power, scale, and corrected power are added automatically to the FIT file. At 0.0%, they are not recorded. W′bal recording is independent.
Power Scale does not alter Garmin’s standard power, so standard power, NP, IF, and TSS remain uncorrected. To create a FIT file using corrected power as standard power, use the Analyzer:

【Trial and Purchase】
PCH Alert+ is a paid app with a 7-day full-feature trial. Continued use requires a US$5 license through KiezelPay:
https://kiezelpay.com/
Power correction and recording, CP Learning, and all W′bal features are included.
【Data Handling】
Correction and W′bal are stored in the FIT file; learned CP data stays on the device. Analyzer processing runs in your browser without file uploads.
【Notes】
• Add this data field to an activity-profile data screen after installation.
• Power features require a compatible power meter; pedal balance requires ANT+ left/right balance data.
• Cadence and heart-rate alerts require compatible measurement data.
• The app’s lap average may differ from Garmin’s standard value.
• W′bal is an estimate, not a guarantee of fatigue or sustainable duration. The device shows 0–100%, but its FIT chart may fall below zero.
• Changing CP settings during a ride may reset W′bal.
• Always prioritize road conditions, physical condition, and safety.
【Compatible Devices】
Edge 540 / 550 / 840 / 850 / 1040 / 1050

- Added the three-item lower display, PB/W′bal graph selection, and tap controls
- Manual CP values can now be used as initial learning values
- Added CP learning based on 3-, 5-, 12-, and 20-minute maximum mean power
- Added Manual and Learned options for CP Source
- W′bal recovery during stops is now calculated using absolute elapsed time
- Records signed `pch_wbal` values to FIT files, including negative values
- Added W′bal chart support in Garmin Connect
- Removed the Record Scaled Power to FIT setting
- Setting Power Scale to 0.0% disables `pch_power` recording
v2.39
Major changes from the previous PCH Alert official release v2.15:
• Released PCH Alert+ as a new and independent app
• Added a seven-day full-feature trial and license purchasing through KiezelPay
• Added “Record Scaled Power to FIT.” The original Power, configured scale factor, and scaled Power are added to the FIT file using an app-specific format. The default setting is OFF
• The additional recording of scaled Power does not directly modify Garmin’s native Power data. Recorded FIT files can be rebuilt using the compatible Analyzer
• Added numerical and color-coded bar displays for left/right Pedal Balance received from compatible ANT+ power meters
• Added selectable Pedal Balance averaging periods of 3, 10, 30, or 60 seconds
• Added a selectable lower display area with PB Graph, Lap Average, or W/kg
• Added selectable number fonts: Number Hot, Number Medium, Number Mild, or Auto
• Optimized the placement of the main value, divider lines, lower display area, and Pedal Balance bars for each compatible device and data-screen layout
• Reorganized the Power, Cadence, and Heart Rate settings into separate groups for improved readability
• Updated compatible devices to Edge 540, 550, 840, 850, 1040, and 1050
