The hour hand takes a full day to make one revolution around the dial. Noon is at the top of the face and midnight is at the bottom. The background of the watch face represents the portions of the day that are daylight and night. Sunrise and sunset times are based on your location. In addition, you have the option to show several twilight dawn and dusk times as lines radiating from the center. You may need to run an activity with GPS in order to update your location. If the location is unknown or “Do Location-Based Calculations” is turned off in the watch face settings, this feature will be disabled. If your watch setting is set to 12-Hour, you will see AM on the left side and PM on the right side of the dial. If its set to 24-Hour, the hour numbers will run from 1-23. The approximate phase of the moon is shown at the midnight position. The second hand will appear with a gesture or if the watch is plugged in. It disappears when the watch goes back into low power mode. You can also disable the second hand entirely or force it to always render in the watch face settings. Some watch faces do not render the screen every second, so if it is always shown it may not be accurate. The month, date and day of week dials are represented with analog hands. Like the hour and minute hands, they move continuously. They don't "snap" between each number, but display the portion of time that has elapsed (for example, if it is close to midnight, the weekday hand will be near the border between two days). If you want to maximize the contrast in order to see the calendar dials better, choose "White/Black" for "Hands and Dials Primary Color" and for "Calendar Discs" in the watch face settings. There is an optional dial to show the seasons that shares the hand that shows the month. You can set it to off, northern hemisphere, southern hemisphere or have it automatically set according to your latitude. If you set it to auto, it will be hidden if the watch face cannot get your location or “Do Location-Based Calculations” is turned off. Seasons will also be hidden if your latitude is in the tropical region (less than about 23.4 degrees N or S). Season dial will render only if the date and month dials are turned on. Three activity arcs show steps, floors and intensity minutes. Completing a full arc means that you have met your daily step, floors or weekly intensity minute goals. Those arcs will also turn gold to show when they are completed. You can turn this feature off in the settings. Icons will display showing if your phone is connected, how many alarms are active and if do not disturb is active. There is a battery bar at the top. A red move bar will show at the bottom. When in an activity using GPS, indicators will turn on at either side of the watch face colored according to GPS quality. All these features (except the battery indicator) can be disabled in the watch face settings The colors of the watch face can be customized with the settings. First choose the overall “tone” of the watch face: if you want dark elements on a light background or light elements on a dark background. Then you can choose the colors of various features of the watch. There is also a setting where the watch will automatically toggle between light or dark depending on if the sun is above the horizon (the watch face needs to have the location and “Do Location-Based Calculations” turned on for this to work, otherwise it will default to the light tone.
