About
If you like this data field, please consider supporting my development effort. Supporters get a license key that will unlock additional features. Note that the core functionality DOES NOT require a license key, and will ALWAYS be free. (Click on the 'more...' link and scroll down for details.)
Forerunner 965 users (and possibly FR945/FR955): There is a firmware bug that prevents all CIQ data fields from seeing the navigation information. This unfortunately prevents NavComboField from working. Please contact Garmin to ask them to fix the issue. Once they do, the field will work as expected on your device.
Online User Guide: https://tinyurl.com/NavComboFieldUserGuide
This data field is used when following a course during an activity (run/bike/etc). Your device should be set to "follow course" mode for routing. (See User Guide for details.) The "turn arrows" are determined by the first character in the name of the upcoming course point. (Also explained in the User Guide.)
The information that is displayed is:
* Turn arrow (or icon for Aid Station, Rest Room, etc)
* Distance to next point/turn
* Distance to finish
The data field will also alert you when approaching a turn/point by playing an alert sound, vibrating, and turning on the backlight. You will get a similar alert if you go off-course.
When off-course, the display changes to show how far you are off-course, and displays the message "Off Course" instead of the next turn/point.
Note that this is not intended to be a full-screen data field. (You technically *can* add it as the only data field in a full-screen layout, but it would waste a lot of space.) The simulator screenshots show it as it would be positioned in a stock layout as one of many data fields on the screen. NavComboField will look best if the position it is in spans the entire width of the device. My intent is to eventually create a different data field that *is* full-screen and will likely look similar to the 5-field layout on the Fenix 6. However, some of the supported devices are limited to 32KB of memory for data fields, and this *barely* fits within that memory limit. So the full-screen field will be an entirely different project, and will be supported only on devices with more memory.
