You can set it to "Empty" complication, it won't draw anything. - This watchface consume too much energy? Consider to turn off always-on second to save battery. - How to know if the watch is connected to phone? By using group notification complication, if a phone is connected it will show "C" (connected), otherwise is "D" (disconnected). - Can't update watch face setting/setting keep reset to default on Garmin Connect app? This is a bug of Garmin Connect iOS app, please update Garmin Connect to the latest version. - Can't get sunrise/sunset to work? Sunrise/sunset only work if it have GPS signal, try go start any activity and wait for GPS signal, then return to watch face and then everything is good. - Complication data just show "--" value? Not all complication data is supported for any device, it depends on your device is supported or not. - Square appeared instead of character? Currently this watch face only support English (or latin character), more languare support will come in the next release.
