About

Boat-mounted race recorder for sprint canoe and kayak. Records stroke rate and raw motion silently — no display, no alerts, no pacing. Analyse after the race. Full description Locus Race Recorder turns your Garmin into a silent data logger for sprint canoe and kayak racing. Mount it on the boat, start it on the beach, and it records — nothing else. No live metrics, no vibrations, no tones, nothing to look at and nothing to press. That restraint is the whole point. Sport rules for canoe sprint prohibit devices that give an athlete real-time performance feedback during a race. This app is built to be obviously and verifiably inert while still capturing the data your coach wants afterwards. WHAT IT RECORDS • Stroke rate (SPM) across the whole session • Distance per stroke, plus roll and surge balance scores • Raw accelerometer and gyroscope data at up to 100 Hz, into the FIT file • GPS track, speed, distance and heart rate • Session summary: average stroke rate, total strokes, average distance/stroke All of it lands in Garmin Connect as chart-ready fields on a normal Paddling activity. WHAT IT DELIBERATELY DOES NOT DO • No live stroke rate, pace or timer on screen — the display shows only that it is recording, and the clock time it started • No vibrations and no tones. The app contains no code that can produce either • No pausing, no laps, no alerts, no coaching PRE-FLIGHT CHECK Before it will record, the app reads your watch's own vibration and tone settings and refuses to start until both are off — the point at which the watch itself cannot alert you for any reason, from any app or from the system. It also flags a connected phone, set alarms, Do Not Disturb, battery and GPS as advisories. The verified state is written into the FIT file alongside your data. IMPORTANT — MOUNT YOUR WATCH Stroke detection assumes the watch is rigidly attached to the boat. Wrist wear or taped-on rigs degrade the signal badly. Visit locus.fit for mounting options. IMPORTANT — CHECK YOUR OWN RULES This app is a tool, not a ruling. Equipment rules differ between federations, change between seasons, and are interpreted by the officials in front of you on the day. Before racing with any device on your boat, clear it with your national federation and the event's chief official. Locus Fit is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by any canoe federation. Free, no account needed. Questions or feedback: [email protected]
