Ascent Loop - Repeat-ascent tracker
· vv2 (adds FR965)
About
Vert Loop is a single-screen activity app for repeat-ascent events — where you climb the same
route again and again and ride a lift or gondola back down. This is set for 8 laps
Everything lives on one screen. There is no paging and nothing to swipe.
WHAT IT SHOWS
A full outer progress ring that maps your position within the current lap.
Bottom of the ring is the base, top is the summit. The right half fills as you
climb; the left half fills back down as you descend.
An oversized lap timer as the hero number.
Total vertical gain across the whole event, in feet or metres.
Lap counter against your configured target number of ascents.
Countdown to your event cutoff.
Total elapsed event time, which keeps running across laps and rests.
Current altitude.
A five-segment heart rate zone indicator.
Time of day.
AUTOMATIC ASCENT AND DESCENT DETECTION
The app watches barometric altitude and switches between climb and descent on
sustained vertical speed, so a lift or gondola ride is recognised without you
touching a button. A minimum lap duration prevents false triggers on rolling
terrain. You can turn detection off and drive laps manually instead, and manual
lap advance always works as a backstop.
Optionally auto-pauses the timer during the descent so lap times reflect climbing
only.
CONFIGURABLE
Set your target number of ascents, total vertical goal, vertical per ascent,
expected descent duration, event window in hours, and feet or metres. Detection
and auto-pause can each be switched off.
RECORDING
Records a normal activity that syncs to Garmin Connect, with per-lap data and
custom FIT fields for the event-specific values.
REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS
fenix 8 family only.
Needs a barometric altimeter for automatic detection. Manual lap control works
without it.
Uses continuous GPS and a 1 Hz refresh. Expect meaningful battery draw on very
long events; charge before a multi-hour session.
Detection thresholds are tuned for gondola-style descents that lose altitude
steadily over several minutes. Short or slow descents may need manual laps.
English only.
No phone connection, no account, and no internet required. Nothing leaves the
watch beyond the normal activity sync you already do.
