About
Warp for Garmin is a games library application for Garmin Connect IQ smartwatches and sports devices, bringing classic arcade gaming experiences to Garmin's diverse ecosystem of wearables. The application provides players with two distinct gameplay modes: Pong, a timeless paddle-based ball-bouncing game that challenges reflexes through two-player mechanics or single-player challenges, and 2048, a popular tile-sliding puzzle game that combines strategy and number-matching skills to reach increasingly higher point totals. Supporting over 150 Garmin device models—including popular lines like Fenix, Epix, Edge, Instinct, Venu, and many specialized sports watches—Warp for Garmin offers widespread compatibility across Garmin's entire Connect IQ platform.
The application architecture demonstrates thoughtful device-aware design patterns that respect the hardware limitations and capabilities of different Garmin watches. The 2048 game is intelligently restricted to touchscreen-enabled devices only, ensuring users only encounter games that can be properly controlled on their specific device, while Pong is universally available across all supported models. The implementation carefully handles varying screen sizes, aspect ratios, and screen shapes—including round displays common in many Garmin watches—to ensure responsive and visually coherent gameplay regardless of the target device. Built entirely in Monkey C, Garmin's specialized object-oriented programming language with type checking, the codebase leverages the Garmin Application API for UI rendering, event handling, and device-specific features. The project is structured with a main menu delegate system that manages game selection and navigation, modular game implementations organized in separate directories (pong and game2048), and compiled binaries targeting the entire Garmin Connect IQ runtime, enabling seamless deployment across Garmin's diverse hardware platform.
