Damascus Steel is built like a forged instrument. Two steel strands are woven around the rim in a damascus twist, and they are not decoration: each one is a goal ring. One strand fills as you walk, the other as you earn active minutes, so a glance at the weave tells you how both goals stand. Where the strands meet at the top and bottom of the dial, a single wavy ribbon tags each one in its own colour. Everything inside the rim sits in the same machined housing: a raised, bevelled bezel around a recessed well finished with fine engine-turned engraving. The date plate, the trend band and all four side panels share that housing, and the three gauges across the bottom are the same idea struck as round coins, so the whole dial reads as one piece of hardware rather than a collection of widgets. Set the material in one move. Nine presets recolour the entire face — Damascus Steel, Gold Forge, Gunmetal, Ember, Verdigris, Amethyst, Midnight, Rose Gold and Frost — and every element that is set to follow the theme moves with it: both strands, the three gauges as a swept metal gradient, the trend line, the side readouts, the sunrise row and the date plate. Any single element can still be given its own colour from eighteen swatches. The clock is yours too: clean white, a sweep of the theme across the digits, or one chosen colour. Fill the instrument with what you actually track. Two panels on each side: a large single readout above, a combined readout below that stacks two related numbers in one panel. A framed trend band under the clock draws a sparkline over faint hour lines, so you can see at a glance whether you are higher or lower than you were two hours ago, with the metric icon and its live value on the same rail. Three gauges run across the bottom, and the date plate carries a metric of its own. Every one of those places is a picker into a deep catalogue of health, activity and weather readings. Sunrise and sunset sit together on a single line above the date, each time in its own strand colour either side of a split sun, so first and last light read at a glance without giving up a panel. Units follow your watch, the clock reads 12 or 24-hour with am and pm, and the date is localized. Every number is set in a custom-baked typeface, every icon is drawn and anti-aliased on the watch itself, and the whole dial is smoothed rather than left with hard stair-stepped edges. The always-on display is burn-in-safe by design: a dimmed clock that shifts gently through the day, carrying your theme as colour but held to one brightness so it costs no more than a plain one, with the date, battery and status cues each an opt-in tier. The engraving can be switched off to light fewer pixels. No ticking seconds, to spare your battery. Open the watch face settings in the Garmin Connect IQ app to make Damascus Steel your own.

V1.1.1 - The always-on display is now fully yours: choose exactly which elements appear, date and battery, and which status cues show, independently of each other. Unread notifications now show their count beside the envelope, on the dial and on the always-on display. The always-on clock can match the dial, take a neutral tone, follow your theme or use any swatch, and the always-on battery now fills in proportion to charge. There are three always-on sizes to pick from, the Bluetooth cue can be set to appear only when your phone is disconnected, and four new metallic colours join the palette: silver, champagne, pewter and bronze. V1.0.3 - Sharper typography: the clock numerals are re-tuned so the colon and unit marks sit perfectly centred. Icons across the dial and the always-on display are bigger and clearer, and sunrise and sunset times are larger too. You can now set your own target for each goal ring, or leave it following your watch goal, and Active Calories can be picked for any of the three gauges. V1.0.0 - Damascus Steel is new. A woven two-strand steel rim where each strand is a live goal ring, tagged by a wavy ribbon at the top and bottom of the dial.
