Swim Pacer
· v1.4.0
About
Swimming and training by using threshold pace, Aerobic Swimming Treshold, T-pace, Critical Swim Speed (CSS) or by just keeping a steady pace over a longer distance will improve your endurance and speed. Correct pacing will make you better at maintaining your technique. Swim Pacer will let you set the pace for a lap and the number of laps you want to go (or if endless mode and it will continue until stopped). You will get a tone and vibration as indication when you should lap to keep a steady pace. If you get the signal before you reach the end of the pool you are swimming too slow. If you already flipped around when you get the signal you are going too fast! Do a flip turn when the watch vibrates and you hear the tone and you are in the sweet spot! Then keep the pace and increase number of laps or slowly decrease time per lap as you improve.
The signal tone will change depending on how far you have been swimming: there is one tone for lapping, another tone for when you start the last lap and a reminder three seconds before the end of the last lap. With this you can put 100% focus on your swimming and the watch will let you know when to stop, depending on your settings.
Everything is configured on the watch in the app - no need to use your phone (which shouldn't be near the water). Very easy to configure, no instructions needed. Numbers and texts are big and easy to read. Version 1.1 added 1/100th second setting and version 1.2 added the information to the swim view. Very detailed time settings but still easy adjustments. Shave of 10 ms per length - it is not much but still an improvement. All improvements counts! Choose "fast forward" as showed in image below for endless mode (swim until you press start/stop) in lap settings.
To learn more about how to improve your swimming with Swim Pacer, search internet for "swimming threshold pace", "Aerobic Swimming Treshold", "T-pace" or "Critical Swim Speed (CSS)". Plenty of inspiration, tutorials and videos available.
No registration, no fees. Just easy to use swim pacing accessible for everyone (...with a Garmin watch)! Unfortunately it doesn't work on Garmin Swim 2 since it doesn't support apps from Connect IQ.
What's new
1.4.0 Added support for Forerunner 245 and 255. Thanks Salvador for requesting it.
1.3.0 Added a check if the device can play sound. If it can't, Swim Pacer won't try and it will not ask the user to turn on sound. Thanks Luisa J for the bug report (discovered on a vivoactive device).
1.2.1 Fixed touch screen interaction: some users got stuck on the splash screen (when sound/vibration is turned off). Should now be able to tap and continue. Thanks Chris for report.
1.2 Swim view also shows number of laps and total time spent. Support for even more watch models.
1.1 Now with timing with 1/100th seconds accuracy. Also support for more watch models.
1.0.1 Note to self: check version before submitting app.
1.0 First version. Edit pace, edit laps.
