GymSetSense+Hiit — Smart Gym Set & Rest Tracker
· v3.2
About
The gym timer that knows when you stop lifting. GymSetSense+Hiit watches your heart rate and switches to rest automatically — no buttons, no fumbling mid-workout.
GymSetSense+Hiit turns your Garmin into a real strength-training partner.
Most gym timers make YOU do the work. GymSetSense+Hiit uses your heart rate to detect when a set ends and starts your rest countdown automatically. Chalk on your hands? Mid-superset? It just works.
SMART SET TRACKING
• Auto-rest detection: senses when a set truly ends — wrist stillness AND a real heart-rate drop, together — and starts your rest countdown automatically, with Low / Medium / High sensitivity (can be disabled)
• Long-rest option for compound lifts: arm a longer rest with one button press before a heavy set; short rest stays your default otherwise
• Soft "still going?" buzz after 5 minutes of continuous work — a gentle nudge, never forces a switch
• One button (LAP) to switch Work ↔ Rest manually any time
• Every set saved as a lap in your FIT file, plus a real Sets count in Garmin Connect's activity detail
• Set counter with accidental-press protection and undo (DOWN)
• Experimental rep counting from wrist motion (optional)
LIVE DATA THAT MATTERS
• High-contrast white data screen built for bright gym lighting
• Big HR in a zone-coloured box (your personal zones from your Garmin profile)
• Session max/avg HR, per-set max/min HR, native Garmin calories
• Rest countdown you can feel without looking: one buzz when rest starts, one at ten seconds left, two when it's time to lift — plus a full-width rest sweep bar
• Body Battery on the start screen so you know how ready you are
• Inactivity reminder if you've been chatting instead of lifting
SETTINGS ON YOUR WRIST
• Six quick settings on the watch across two pages — auto-rest, rest, long rest, alerts, cool-down and set laps — no phone needed
• Open them from the start screen, or mid-workout from the pause screen, which spells out where they are
• Changes apply to the workout you're already in and are remembered for the next one
• Everything is configurable from the Garmin Connect app as well, if you prefer
FINISH YOUR WAY
After the gym session, pick what's next right on the watch:
• Treadmill run — pace, distance, HR zone gauge, auto-lap per km or mile
• Tabata HIIT — adjust work/rest times right on the watch before each block (no phone needed), configurable rounds, a 3-2-1 countdown buzz before every phase change, each round a lap
• Guided cool-down after a run or a Tabata block — the watch offers it, you decide. Anything from 1 to 10 minutes, or off, showing your heart rate when you stopped, your heart rate now, how far it has dropped, and your total workout time. Saved as its own lap so Garmin Connect keeps it separate from the work
• A 5-second get-ready countdown before a Run or Tabata starts recording — buzz at 5s, beep 3-2-1, stronger buzz at go — so you're never caught mid-step. Skip early with START, cancel with LAP
• Or just save and go — every block is its own activity in Garmin Connect
MADE FOR REAL GYMS
• Buttons-only control — sweat and touchscreens don't mix (touch can only pause)
• No phone needed in the gym — 100% standalone on the watch
• Featherweight on battery: a full 45-min gym session plus a 30-min run used just 2% on a fenix 7 Pro
• Nothing recorded until you press START; discard protection on every exit path
• Pause anytime (gym or run): START pauses and resumes, LAP finishes, DOWN discards
• Battery guard force-saves your workout before the watch dies
• White, Dark, or Auto theme (dark after sunset) for menus and summaries
• Adjustable vibration strength with a live preview so you can set it by feel, optional tone alerts
• 10 languages

What's new
**Removed Instinct series from supported devices while display issues on those watches are fixed. No changes for other watches*
## What's new Version 3.1 — the cool-down now follows every kind of session, the settings finally follow you into the workout, and every alert you rely on has been rebuilt so you cannot miss one.
COOL-DOWN, WHEREVER YOU FINISH
• The guided heart-rate cool-down now follows a Tabata block as well as a treadmill run
• The watch asks first — take it, or skip straight to saving
• You set the length: anything from 1 to 10 minutes, or off entirely
• Live recovery readout: your heart rate when you stopped, your heart rate now, how far it has dropped, and your total workout time
• Saved as its own lap, so Garmin Connect shows the cool-down apart from the work
SETTINGS THAT FOLLOW YOU INTO THE WORKOUT
• Pause mid-session and the screen now tells you where the settings are instead of leaving you to guess
• Change rest length, auto-rest sensitivity, alerts or cool-down and it takes effect on the set you're in — and is remembered for next time
• Quick Settings grew from four dials to six across two pages, adding cool-down length and set laps
ALERTS YOU CANNOT MISS
• In the gym: one buzz when rest starts, one at ten seconds left, two when it's time to get back to work
• In Tabata: a 3-2-1 countdown, one buzz per second for the last three seconds of every work and every rest phase, identical both ways — it used to be a single buzz that was easy to miss mid-burpee
• Important alerts can no longer be swallowed by another buzz landing at the same moment
• If your alerts are off, or your watch's own vibration is, the start screen now says so in red — before your first set rather than after a whole silent session
• Nudge the Alerts dial and it plays the real end-of-rest pattern at the new strength, so you can set it by feel
NEW "SET LAPS" SETTING
• A lap marker for every set and every Tabata round is on by default — that's what puts the per-set breakdown into Garmin Connect
• If you'd rather your phone stopped announcing each one out loud, you can now turn them off; the set count is recorded either way
FIXES
• Text no longer collides with buttons or runs off the edge on the pause, cool-down and interrupted-workout screens
## What's new (v2.3)
Smarter detection, new controls, and a fresh look:
• Auto-rest now needs BOTH your wrist going still AND your heart rate dropping before it ends a set — a quick re-grip or breath mid-set no longer cuts it short
• New long-rest option for compound lifts — press UP mid-set to arm a longer rest for the set you're about to finish; short rest stays the default
• Soft "still going?" buzz after 5 minutes of continuous work — a gentle nudge, never forces a switch
• Set count now shows up as a real stat in Garmin Connect's activity detail, not just unlabeled laps
• Tabata work/rest times are now adjustable right on the watch before each block — no more digging into phone settings
• New 5-second get-ready countdown before a Run or Tabata starts recording — buzz at 5s, beep 3-2-1, stronger buzz at go
• Refreshed design across every menu and confirmation screen, in both Light and Dark theme
• Pause now also pauses the FIT recording, so Garmin Connect's activity time matches the watch
• Smoother treadmill run pause/resume, cleaner lap buzzes, wider rest-countdown bar
• Wider device support — 60+ Garmin watches now, including Instinct, older fēnix 5/6, D2, Descent, and more Forerunner/MARQ variants
## What's new (v2.2)
Driven by real on-watch testing:
• Smarter auto-rest — now senses set-end from wrist motion as well as heart
rate, so it triggers even when your HR barely moves during lifting (the old
HR-only detection often never fired). New Low/Medium/High sensitivity setting.
• Pause the run — START now pauses and resumes the treadmill run instead of
jumping to a save prompt; LAP finishes, DOWN discards. Gym and run pause the
same way now.
• Run screen numbers stay inside their
