Soccer Ref
· v1.13.2
About
This is a dedicated soccer football referee activity inspired by a request https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/f/app-ideas/411709/request-a-soccer-referee-app.
It was designed to work with both 5 button and touch screen watches, be simple to use, very stable with clear screens. Tap for select is disabled by default on active play screens to prevent accidental touches. It can record goals, fouls with violation codes, substitutions etc as well as extra time.
⭐See the settings on phone Connect IQ app and from watch first screen using menu (hold up button). The touch keypad selection mode only works for watches with touch capability, otherwise they use a scrolling list.
⭐Summary results from previously saved matches (up to 10) may be viewed post match from the first screen (Down button or swipe up on touchscreen watches). Long press (menu) will undo the last game event while on the Summary view.
⭐Game event details are stored with laps in the Garmin 'FIT' file format, which also stores the usual activity metrics like heartrate and heatmap to be viewed in Garmin Connect. Unfortunately, Connect does not show the soccer specific event details. Therefore, I wrote a small Windows application (get it here: https://litdev.uk/Garmin/SoccerRefAppSetup.exe) to read the FIT file (or downloaded zip). A zip containing an activity FIT file is easily downloaded from Connect website (settings cog - Export File).
⭐An android app to view results is in beta testing (requirement for access to Google Play Store). If you want to help testing or just want the beta version please contact me or request to join the testing with this link https://groups.google.com/g/soccerref-closed-testing (easier to see opened on a PC). You need to register with the gmail account you use on the phone for Play Store.
⭐A treatment timer (to delay a player re-entering play after injury treatment or delayed play) may be started by a menu long press or a swipe left on the main game screen. The time period may be set in the settings as 30 or 60 seconds. The treatment countdown can be set if game play is paused or not, but the countdown only updates while play is active. A short vibration is made when the treatment timer is started, with a longer vibration when the timer completes. Additionally a perimeter arc shows the remaining time. If multiple treatement timers are started, then the arc displays the shortest remaining time, but mutiple timers remain active.
I haven't written comprehensive instructions, as I hope it is relatively intuitive (see 'What's New' and short videos below) - there are only 4 buttons (and touch equivalents) that pretty much do the same on all activity apps: menu (long press on left or bottom right on some watches), next (swipe up), previous (swipe down), back (swipe right) and start/stop/select (tap), in some cases button hints (*) are provided.
