About

A goat looks back at you from your wrist, and it does not sit still. Every second your watch redraws, the goat moves. It blinks. It chews its cud to a slow rhythm. It flicks an ear at a fly and lets it settle. It glances off to one side and its head follows a beat later. Now and then it shakes its head, sticks out a pink tongue, or has a proper wide-jawed yawn with its eyes screwed shut. None of it is a canned loop. The pose is worked out from the clock itself, so the goat is caught mid-fidget whenever you happen to look down. SIXTEEN GOATS Each breed has its own coat, markings, ears, horns and beard: - Nubian - glossy chocolate, ears hanging past the jaw - Nigerian Dwarf - chocolate and white, blue eyes, wattles, short kid face - Alpine - black face with two white eye stripes, swept horns - Boer - rust-red head, broad white blaze, heavy floppy ears - Angora - cream fleece in ringlets, corkscrew horns, long beard - Pygmy - agouti grey with a dark bandit mask - LaMancha - the earless one, chocolate with tiny elf ears - Toggenburg - fawn with two white stripes down the face - Saanen - all white, pink muzzle, pale eyes - Wild Ibex - huge ridged scimitar horns - Black Bengal - jet black with amber eyes - Oberhasli - deep bay red under a black mask - Valais Blacknose - white ringlets, face black to the ears - Markhor - wild corkscrew horns and a beard to the chest - Golden Guernsey - blonde, ears carried low - Kiko - hardy cream with a big sweep of horn Pick your favourite, or leave it on Surprise Me for a new goat every hour, or every day. THE TIME The time is stamped into the leather noseband of the goat's halter, in the largest numeric font your watch can fit, and the date is written across its forehead. On a 12-hour watch AM or PM sits beside the digits. Prefer bare digits? Turn the strap off. IT KNOWS HOW YOUR DAY IS GOING The goat takes its mood from you. When your Body Battery runs low it slows down and its eyelids start to hang; when your move bar has been filling up it gets twitchy and paces. Your step goal runs round the rim of the screen as it fills. Neither is a badge or a popup - the goat simply behaves differently, and you notice. Want none of it? "Just the goat" is one switch that clears the date, both data fields and the goal ring, and leaves you a goat and the time. SETTINGS - Goat: surprise hourly, surprise daily, or any of the sixteen - Liveliness: Still, Normal or Frisky - turn the fidgeting down, or off - Goat shares your mood: on or off - Backdrop: Auto (dawn, daylight, dusk, night), Meadow, Slate or Black - Halter strap: on or off - Time colour: cream, white, gold, mint or sky - Just the goat: hide every reading in one switch - Show date: on or off - Two labelled data fields: steps, heart rate, calories, battery, Body Battery, notifications, distance or active minutes - Step goal ring: on or off DRAWN, NOT PHOTOGRAPHED There is no bitmap art in this watch face. Every horn, ear and rectangular pupil is drawn by the watch itself, in shapes measured against your exact screen, so it stays crisp on every panel from 218x218 up to 454x454 - and the colours are chosen to hold their shape on 64-colour memory-in-pixel displays as well as on AMOLED. On AMOLED watches, always-on mode shows a dim outline goat with its slot pupils, the time in the colour you picked and the date if you want it, nudged a few pixels each minute to protect the panel. Goats have rectangular pupils. They have wattles. They chew sideways. The details are the whole point. Free and open source: github.com/chrisdfennell/Goat-Watchface

What's new

[1.2.0] - 2026-08-01 Added - The goat shares your mood. When your Body Battery is low it slows down and its eyelids sit heavy; when your move bar has been filling up it gets twitchy. Both are read at most once every five minutes and cached, so the once-a-second redraw costs nothing extra. Turn it off with **Goat shares your mood**. - A step goal ring round the rim: an unlit track the whole way round and a lit arc for the part of today's goal that is done, clockwise from twelve, in the same green the STEPS field uses. - Just the goat - one switch that hides the date, both data fields and the goal ring, leaving only the goat and the time. The individual settings keep their values and come back when you turn it off. - AM or PM beside the digits on a 12-hour watch, which the face could not tell you before. It is drawn in the small font because Garmin's numeric fonts carry digits and a colon and nothing else, and it is dropped rather than moved on panels too narrow to fit it beside the time. Changed - Always-On mode honours your settings. It drew the time in a fixed grey and never showed the date, which on an AMOLED watch is the face you see for most of the day. It now uses your Time colour and shows the date if you have it on, both dimmed hard to stay inside the burn-in pixel budget. Data fields stay off there deliberately - they would mean waking a sensor once a minute all night. - `ActivityMonitor` is read once per redraw and passed down rather than fetched again by each data field.
