About

RespRate is a respiratory rate counter designed to help healthcare professionals quickly count a patient’s breathing rate directly from a Garmin watch. Each time the patient takes a breath, simply press the button or tap the screen. RespRate continuously calculates the respiratory rate in breaths per minute based on the time between the counted breaths. The app is intended for situations where medical personnel need a simple and fast way to manually determine a patient’s respiratory rate without having to calculate it themselves. Features: - Count a patient’s breaths using a button press or touchscreen tap - Live respiratory rate calculation in breaths per minute - Elapsed measurement time - Breath counter - 60-second progress indicator - Save completed measurements directly on the watch - Review the latest measurements in the built-in history - Recent measurements remain stored on the watch, making subsequent documentation easier and reducing the need to remember values immediately - Multiple display styles: Classic, Blue, Green and Blue-Green - Optimized for quick and distraction-free use on the wrist How the respiratory rate is calculated RespRate calculates the respiratory rate from the time between the counted breaths: Respiratory rate = ((counted breaths − 1) × 60) / elapsed time in seconds The first counted breath starts the measurement. Each additional breath completes another breathing interval and improves the estimate. Example: If 3 breaths are counted over 8 seconds, there are 2 completed breath intervals: (2 × 60) / 8 = 15 breaths/min Measurement accuracy The calculated result is rounded to the nearest whole breath per minute. Due to rounding, the displayed value may differ by approximately ±1 breath/min from the exact mathematical result. With regular breathing, a useful and stable estimate is typically available after approximately three counted breaths. Continuing the measurement for additional breaths or for a longer period can further reduce the influence of individual variations in the breathing pattern. RespRate is primarily intended for healthcare and emergency medical personnel who manually assess the respiratory rate of patients. The built-in history keeps the most recent measurements available directly on the watch, so they can be reviewed afterwards and transferred more easily into the patient documentation. Important: RespRate is a counting and calculation aid and is not a certified medical device. It does not perform automatic respiratory monitoring, provide diagnoses, or replace professional clinical assessment.
