Keychain — QR Code, Barcode & Card Wallet

Keychain turns your loyalty, membership, and rewards cards into real, scannable QR codes and barcodes on your Garmin. Just enter the number — Keychain picks the right code for it. Open a card and it fills the screen at boosted brightness, ready for the scanner — no phone, no signal, nothing uploaded. Keychain Pro holds 20 — a one-time purchase, sold on recent Garmin watches: https://apps.garmin.com/apps/e89862e0-01c1-47d7-be1c-388d8ac8afef ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WHAT YOU CAN STORE • QR codes — loyalty, membership, event, and parkrun codes • Barcodes — Code 128 for most gym, library, and club cards; EAN-13, UPC-A and EAN-8 for retail numbers (ISBNs too); Code 39 for member badges; Codabar for libraries and blood donors • 2D codes — Aztec, PDF417 and DataMatrix for boarding passes, rail and transit tickets, coupons, and healthcare codes • Notes — locker numbers, gate codes, any short text ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ SETTING UP YOUR CARDS Cards are set up from your phone in the Connect IQ app (Keychain → Settings): 1. Scroll to a card's section (Card 1, Card 2, and so on). 2. Set its Name and enter its Value — the number or text on the card (or let the scanner below read it from the card's code). 3. Tap Save. Your cards sync to the watch and appear in the app's card list. The Type is optional — "Auto detect" reads the Value and picks the format that scans best on your watch. Set the Type yourself for a Note (plain text to read), Code 39, Codabar, PDF417 or DataMatrix — auto-detect never picks those. A card appears in your list as soon as it has a Value. The free companion scanner reads every Keychain code type from the camera or a photo — in your browser, nothing uploaded, no app to install: https://keychain.rowntree.dev ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ PARKRUN Enter your athlete ID including the "A" (for example, A1234567) — Keychain detects it and shows it as a QR code, confirmed with the official parkrun scanner. At a rare event still using an older laser scanner, set that card's Type to Barcode. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ GOOD TO KNOW • 100% offline — codes are generated on the device; nothing uploaded, no account. • Open a card to show it full-screen at boosted brightness; tap (or press Start) to dim or brighten it. Short card numbers show under the code, so you can read your number or have it typed in if a scan fails. • In 33 languages — follows your watch's system language automatically. • Codes are generated to scan cleanly, but success also depends on the reader and lighting — some scanners may not read one. • Trouble scanning a barcode? Try switching that card to QR Code — a value that shows as a barcode almost always fits as a QR code too, and many store scanners read both. • On Garmin Edge devices, turn off auto/adaptive brightness for reliable scanning — with it on, the screen won't go to full brightness for a code. • The Value field holds 300 characters; each code type has its own scannable limit, and a value past it shows a clear message. Digits or capitals fit the most as a QR code — even a gym's 180-character code fits most models. Enter values exactly as issued. • On a few low-memory models (Instinct 2/2S/2X, Instinct Crossover, Descent G1) the two densest formats, PDF417 and DataMatrix, aren't available and show a clear message; QR, barcodes, Aztec and Notes still work. • Your cards don't carry over between Keychain (free) and Keychain Pro.

This release addresses the report that on some AMOLED watches the screen could stay at full brightness after you left a card: Keychain now keeps handing brightness back to your normal level for a moment after you exit, rather than asking once, so the change takes hold. It also fixes a crash that could close the app when you opened a QR code of roughly 225 characters or more, which affected Forerunner 255, Forerunner 255S, fenix 5X and Descent Mk1 — those codes now display normally, and other watches were never affected. The empty card screen now points you to the right place, "Add cards in Connect IQ app settings", and neither that message nor a long card name runs off the edge of the screen any more on vívoactive 5, Instinct 3 Solar 45mm, Instinct E 45mm and Venu Sq 2. Finally, when a code cannot be displayed, the message names the real reason more often, so you can tell a value that is too long from one this watch cannot draw. Your cards are untouched and scan exactly as before.
