About

This Data field is designed to work along side GPSTC Datafield 1. It indicates your “1 hour” and “Nautical Mile” during a windsurfing session. Create a new Activity and add each datafield to a separate Data screen, configure each Data screen to have a 1 field layout. Put GPSTC Datafield 1 on Screen 1, GPSTC Datafield 2 on Screen 2, then configure Screens 3, 4, 5 etc to your personal needs. It displays: • GPS Status • The Best and the current Nautical Mile in kts. • The best and the current 1 hour average speed kts. • Session time. “GPS Status” A basic indication of GPS Status "No GPS” - GPS is not available "No Fix" - The Location is based on the last known GPS fix “Poor 2D" - Only a 2-D GPS fix is available, likely due to a limited number of tracked satellites. "Usable 3D” - 3-D GPS fix is available, with marginal HDOP "Good 3D" - 3-D GPS fix is available, with good-to-excellent HDOP The GPS Status can be logged each second to the FIT file. If required tick this option in the setup. “Nautical Mile” The “Best NM” field shows the highest nautical mile for the session, the “Last NM”field shows the last nautical mile. The last NM will reset if your speed drops below 3 kts and then rises above 15kt. Nautical Mile speeds must exceed 15kt, otherwise zero is displayed. The colour of the “best NM” will change to red if this speed is above the user set target. “1 Hour” During the first hour of the activity the “Best Hour” field will show zero, the “Current Hour” field will show your average speed in knots for the session so far. So say after 5 mins the field is displaying 20 kts, then if you continue at this speed for the remainder of the hour your “hour” the result will be 20 kts. As the hour progresses the displayed number will become more and more a predictor of the final value. If you want to accurately monitor your speed during the first hour, say you are attempting a PB, then you should get up to speed before starting your session. Once you have been sailing for more than an hour, the “Best Hour” field will display your best hour and the “Current Hour” field will display your current hour (the speed for the last 60 minutes), the average speed for the session will no longer be displayed. The colour of the “Best Hour” will change to red if this speed is above the user set target. At the bottom of the screen the session time is displayed The watch will play the “success” tune if either the Hour or NM beat the previous best for this session. At the end of the session the following is written to the FIT file and can be viewed in the Stats panel of the activity in Garmin Connect. This function is not supported by the Fenix 3. • Best Hour • Best Nautical Mile • Best 500 metres This data field should produce an accurate indication of the GPSTC categories. However this data is not approved for posting to GPSTC.
