A chronograph for the wrist you actually train on. Three digital subdials carry the numbers you check, instead of stopwatch counters you don't. Each one shows the value as seven-segment digits, with its rim filling to show the level at a glance. YOU CHOOSE WHAT THEY SHOW Every subdial takes any of sixteen readings: heart rate, steps, stairs climbed, Body Battery, stress, resting heart rate, battery percent, battery days, calories, distance, active minutes, notifications, altitude, sleep score, the date, or nothing at all. Out of the box they are steps, heart rate and Body Battery. Where a reading has a real range, the rim fills against it. Where it has none - calories and distance have no natural full mark - the rim stays empty and only the number is shown. A gauge that points somewhere implies a scale you can trust, so this one does not pretend. Sleep score needs a watch with Garmin's newer software: fenix 7, fenix 8 and Forerunner 255 and 955 have it, fenix 6 does not. It simply will not appear in the list on a watch that cannot supply it. A day-date aperture sits at 3 o'clock, with watch battery and bluetooth and notification glyphs in the pockets below. That's the whole face. Nothing is crammed in to pad a feature list, because a dial you can't read at a glance isn't a watch. Applied indices, a twin-baton 12, and a floating sweep-seconds hand that ticks while your wrist is raised and stops the moment it drops - so it costs you seconds, not hours of battery. You can switch it off entirely. SIX THEMES Signature, Dark, Navy, Emerald, Classical and White. Every colour is chosen to land exactly on the display's own palette, so what you see is what the panel renders - no muddy approximations. TWO KINDS OF SCREEN On a reflective display your watch has no backlight, and its brightness is the light it gives back. That is why the hands and indices here are the brightest things on the dial and the furniture is deliberately dimmer: the glance order is built out of contrast, not colour. On a bright always-on screen the face switches to a separate low-power view between glances. Not a dimmed copy of the dial - a different drawing, with the hands as thin outlines, four indices, and the sweep seconds hand off entirely. It keeps the panel dark and moves slightly minute to minute, so nothing is held in one place. SETTINGS, ON THE WATCH Hold the menu button on the watch face. Theme, sweep seconds and all three subdials are there, and the dial changes as you choose. You can also use your phone if you prefer: Garmin Connect app, then your device, Connect IQ Apps, Watch Faces, chrono72, settings. Both routes write the same setting.
