About

A simple data field for displaying data from a Shimano STEPS ebike on your watch. Mainly useful if you use the EW-EN100 instead of a display on your bike. It is also known to work with the following displays: SC-E6100, SC-E7000, SC-EM800 (EP8), and an EP8 motor connected to the EW-EN100 (like the Orbea Rise) - but *does not* work with the old SC-E8000 display. By default it just shows battery percentage, but you can customise the settings to also display assist mode and gear number. A guide for accessing the settings is here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/14/changing-your-app-settings-in-garmin-express-gcm-ciq-mobile-store. And my favourite feature is you can also customise the "EMTB STEPS" text to whatever you like in the settings ;) - note the text won't update until the data field next starts up. When starting the datafield it will connect to the ebike with the strongest signal (the closest) if there are several nearby. If necessary you can lock it to only ever connect to one specific bike (e.g. first connect when you're alone to make sure it's the correct one and then set the lock flag in the settings) - hopefully works but again I've only tested with one bike, so let me know if any problems! Sometimes if it takes a while to connect initially it can help to switch assist modes on the bike, which seems to wake it up. The connection between watch and ebike uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) so this is only available for the latest watches. Known problems: 1. *** FIXED in firmware 5.63 on these watches *** Garmin are aware of a bug with BLE on Vivoactive 4 and Venu which prevents this app working on those watches - it should display "BLE Start" when this occurs. See this bug report for the latest info: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/i/bug-reports/vivoactive-4-bledelegate-onprofileregister-returns-status-value-2-on-every-2nd-and-3rd-registerprofile 2. If you experience problems after a new version installs/updates - then the best solution is to remove the datafield from your watch (e.g. using Garmin Express) and then install it again from fresh. Unfortunately compatibility with the Edge 130 is not possible, since Garmin have not enabled the Bluetooth libraries in CIQ apps.
