About
DRIVE TRACKER
A Garmin Connect IQ watch app that records car drives as a regular Garmin activity. Captures the GPS track, distance, moving time, break time, average and max speed, and lets you drop waypoints at fuel stops, photo spots and hotels. Each drive saves to Garmin Connect. Built for long-distance road trips.
ON-WATCH CONTROLS (FENIX / EPIX / FORERUNNER / INSTINCT)
- START (top-right): start; press again to pause and open the finish menu.
- BACK (bottom-right): drop a waypoint while driving; resume from pause; exits when idle.
- UP (long-press): open Settings (About).
A waypoint is recorded as a FIT lap split, so Garmin Connect shows each one as a pin on the map. The finish menu offers Resume / Save / Discard. Saving writes the activity to your watch's history, which syncs to Garmin Connect.
SINGLE DASHBOARD
Everything is shown on one screen, no paging:
DRIVING status (green = driving, yellow = paused)
125.4 km distance (hero)
2:34:12 moving time
break 0:18 break time (elapsed minus moving)
avg 48 max 112 average / max speed
WP 3 14:35 waypoint count | time of day
Speeds and distance follow your watch's unit settings (km/h + km, or mph + mi). Current speed is intentionally not on the dashboard - the road, the car's dashboard and your eyes are better places to read it.
SETTINGS / ABOUT
Long-press UP to open the Settings menu. Today it has one entry, About, which shows the app version and a QR code linking to the source repository.

DRIVE TRACKER — CHANGELOG
All notable changes to this project.
v1.0.0 — 2026-07-28 — initial release
Added
- Records each drive as a Garmin Driving FIT activity with
continuous GPS, syncing to Garmin Connect with the full track,
distance, duration and speed stats.
- Manual waypoints on the BACK button — each press writes a FIT
lap, so Garmin Connect shows a split (and a pin on the map) at
every fuel stop, rest area or photo spot.
- Single dashboard with: status (DRIVING / PAUSED / READY),
distance, moving time, break time, average and max speed,
waypoint count, and time of day. No current speed (intentional —
eyes on the road).
- Finish menu (Resume / Save / Discard) opened by pressing START
while a drive is open.
- Settings / About screen (app version + QR to the source repo)
opened by long-pressing UP.
- Contextual BACK: drops a waypoint while running, resumes from
pause when paused, exits only when idle — protects against losing
data by accident.
- Distance and speed honor the watch's unit settings (km/h + km,
or mph + mi).
- Haptic feedback on start, pause, waypoint and save.
- Auto-save fallback if the app is force-closed while a session is
open.
- Steering-wheel launcher icon.
- Targets ~100 current Connect IQ devices (Fenix, Epix, Forerunner,
Venu, Vivoactive, Instinct, Marq, Approach, Edge, descent and
more) at minApiLevel 3.4.0.
