About

Grid Search app for your watch! Search alone or with a group using one of several systematic search pattern choices. Please contact the developer with any problems or feature requests! Support or encourage more development by sending a small donation! https://paypal.me/AColeman75 Always pay attention to your surroundings and use good judgement. The routing directions the watch gives are only an aid in helping follow a pattern and do not take in to account any terrain or restrictions on travel. This is up to you! Instructions: 1. Start the Grid Search activity from your activity list. 2. Configure the search parameters and then choose "Solo Search" or "Group Search" for using multiple people. Group searching is set up over Ant between the watches. *Change values with the up/down buttons or swipes. *Search Distance: How far the total search will cover on the major axis. *Search Width: The distance across the search area. (Not used on Spiral or Square patterns.) *Step Size: The distance between each pass; how much ground you cover per pass. Note that GPS accuracy may limit your ability to make this useful when it is too small. *Method: *Hatch: Standard hatch pattern crisscrossing the area. Centered at your starting location and oriented along the initial heading. *Square: Expanding square pattern, centered at your starting location. *Parallel: Creeping line, or parallel line search starting from your current location and moving out at the initial heading. *Wedge: Similar to the Parallel search, but the width of the search expands as you go. *Spiral: Starts at your current location and spirals outward. *Show Track: The track line can be messy/confusing and slows down the rendering. It defaults off. *Plot North Up: Defaults to heading up so that the map rotates around. Turn this on to select North up. *Group Searching requires each watch being used to choose a unique callsign. *Choose your callsign *Check the group to ensure everyone is listed *Start the search - the first alphabetic callsign will be the search master and configure the initial heading for everyone. *After all the watches receive the initial search location and heading, they create their own unique path so that there is minimal overlap. 3. After starting a search, wait for GPS lock and then rotate the watch to the search heading (used for Hatch, Parallel, and Wedge grids) 4. Walk in the direction of the red bearing arrow for the distance indicated. *Use the up/down buttons or swipes to manually move to the previous or next destination leg. *Press the Start button to open the active search menu. *Mark evidence to leave a breadcrumb trail on the plotter. Currently this is just a red circle there. This creates a lap in the activity if you have recording enabled. *View map to see the grid on the built-in watch map (if the watch is capable) *Restart the search from the current location *Toggle plotter view settings such Show Track and North Up. For best results, use the initial heading and just walk the straight line without consulting the watch too much. Look for your target more than at the watch! On short jog legs of one step size, just walk where it should be and manually advance the leg if the GPS is wandering too much.
