About

Pre-stage: Practical Shooting The walkthrough is done. You’re in the hole. A few minutes remain. How do you prepare? You may already have a pre-stage routine. If it works well for you, keep it. If you don’t, Pre-stage can help you develop one. Either way, the app gives that routine a simple place on your Garmin watch. What does the routine include? Use the parts that help and leave out the ones that don’t. • Tune in: Choose Calm, Steady or Energize. Brief prompts offer small tasks, such as dropping your shoulders, with an optional haptic rhythm. • Plan: Mark when your stage planning is complete. At some point, you have to stop solving the stage and trust the plan you have. This gives you a clear point to do that. • Ready: Choose one to four ready words beforehand. Near the end of the routine, they appear briefly and disappear, giving you something simple to focus on before Make Ready. They are not instructions to carry through the stage. By Make Ready, let go of the words too. • Review: After the stage, an optional review asks what stood out. Save one observation while it’s fresh, then move on. Over time, these observations may help you notice recurring patterns. Match for consistency. Practice for learning. In Match, the routine stays simple and predictable. Set the number of stages and use the routine where you want it. In Practice, choose one thing to notice or work on: calling your shots, movement efficiency, transitions, or something from an earlier review. Choose from the built-in library or select a focus at random. Practice also includes: • Timing tools: Set up short drills with vibration, a beep on supported watches, or both. Preview the cue beforehand. Beep availability depends on supported watch hardware, settings and firmware. • Movement & balance: Short 30–60 second exercises for ordinary daily life, working on balance, movement and body control. These off-range drills require no firearm and are not intended for use at the range. Optional Pre-stage Face The separately purchased watchface can show your ready words, practice focus and match progress. Sharing requires both products on the same watch and Garmin complications support, which varies by model. Without this support, both products work independently. No account or network connection required Pre-stage works entirely on your watch. Settings, progress and reviews stay locally on the watch. There are no ads, subscriptions or developer cloud services. Research behind pre-stage routines Pre-performance routines have been studied in several sports, including shooting and archery. One study of elite 10 m air-pistol shooters reported an average improvement in competition scores after they developed individual pre-shot routines. Practical shooting is different: IPSC and USPSA are more dynamic and less self-paced. These findings do not establish that pre-stage routines improve practical-shooting performance. Pre-stage and the routine in the app have not been scientifically tested. The research does not mean that the app will improve your performance or results. Safety Never use the app while handling a firearm. No exceptions. App use ends before Make Ready and resumes only after Range Is Clear. During that interval, your attention belongs to the stage, the firearm and the RO. Always follow firearm safety rules, match and range rules, and RO commands.
