Parkrun Pacer
· v1.7
About
This is a simple datafield and so can be positioned on any page.
I like to have a 3 field layout, Distance at the top, Time in the middle and this Parkrun Pace field at the bottom.
Whilst standard Garmin functions allow you to pace yourself against a preset speed, this data field allows more precise pacing.
A different pace can be set for each of the five kilometres.
Enter the required pace on the datafield set up page. For example enter “510” for 5 minute 10 seconds per kilometer pace. The fastest pemitted pace is “300” (3 min pace, parkrun in 15 minutes) right up to “1200” (12 minute pace, a parkrun in 60 minutes.
Although Parkruns are professionally measured to be 5km, most users will find that their Garmin watch measures the distance slightly differently. My Garmin measures our local run at 5.03 Km, this distance can be entered in the setup to produce more accurate pacing.
So for example if you want to run your parkrun in exactly 25 minutes and you like to do negative splits, you could choose to enter the following. Let’s assume you have measured your run to 5020 metres.
Set Km 1 pace to be 519
Set Km 2 pace to be 509
Set km 3 pace to be 459
Set km 4 pace to be 449
Set km 5 pace to be 439
Set the Parkrun Distance to be 5020
Before you push start the datafield will show the target time that you have set. This is the total of the five km pace times and an adjustment for the last km, which may be a little shorter or longer.
Once started the datafield will show the number of seconds you are ahead (negative number) or behind (positive number) your target.
If you fall more than 10 seconds behind the set pace then the watch will beep for 20 seconds
If you get ahead more than 10 seconds the watch will make a different sound for 20 seconds.
In the setup you can turn “on” or “off” these sounds
