About

This datafield provides an estimate of your VO2max using the Rockport 1 mile or UKK 2km walk test. This is useful for people who are unable to run or cycle to obtain a VO2max measurement. It is also useful if your Garmin watch does not have a built-in VO2max measurement feature. # Features * Select between the Rockport 1 mile or UKK 2km test method in the settings * Displays estimated VO2max at the end of the test. # Instructions: 1. Determine a 1.25 mile course (2.5km for the UKK 2km method) on an unobstructed path or walkway with no stop signs, ditches, barriers, or elevation change. Even a rise of 3% can alter the outcome of the test. 2. Add the datafield to your walk activity. 3. Warm up for 5 to 10 minutes with easy walking. 4. Start the walk activity on your Garmin watch and immediately start walking as fast as you can. Make every effort to push yourself, but avoid jogging. 5. At the end of the 1 mile (2km for the UKK method), the VO2max estimate will be shown. You can now stop the activity. NOTE: If excessive ascent or descent was detected, an asterisk (*) will appear after the VO2max result. NOTE: Your age, weight, height and gender needs to be entered properly in your Garmin user profile settings for the VO2max calculation. # FULL Version Features * Option to display % test completion, in [square brackets], prior to test completion. * VO2max results will be written to the FIT file for viewing with the activity in Garmin Connect (including heart rate and time at the 1 mile point) * A vibration alert will be given at the end of the test when the prescribed distance is reached. * Option for performing the test on an indoor treadmill. When using this option, the % test completion is only an estimate. Set the treadmill incline to 1%. Stop and save the activity at the end of the required distance as indicated on your treadmill. Do not stop or pause the activity until the end of the required distance. The results will be visible in the activity record in Garmin Connect. * Option to measure heart rate recovery (HRR) at the end of the test. Instructions for this option: https://ko-fi.com/post/Measure-Heart-Rate-Recovery-with-the-Walking-VO2ma-B0B4QFO28 In Garmin Connect, the value for Heart Rate Recovery will be shown with the activity summary. For example, a Heart Rate Recovery value of 25bpm means that your heart rate dropped 25bpm after you stopped walking. As your fitness improves over time, this value should increase. * Determines VO2max adjustment for altitude and saves this for viewing with the activity in Garmin Connect. For example, if the VO2max adjustment value is 5%, then the reported VO2max should be further multiplied by 1.05 to estimate your VO2max at sea level. * Sends the VO2max result to the FitRate app for historical trend graph and fitness ranking.
