About
I learned how to create watch faces because no matter how much I liked many I saw in the Connect IQ Store, there was always some sort of deal-breaker with them that kept me from wanting to use them every day. As is the case with all watch faces I release, I designed this for me. But I thought some other users might enjoy this as well, and so here we are. This face is pretty heavy, so it might take longer to light up or respond than you're used to. But who cares? It's fun! The idea was to create something to celebrate NASA's Apollo program. The logos of the 12 successful manned missions circle the watch, and each hour a new one either becomes full color or changes to gray scale depending on the time of day. As you progress through your weekly steps, floors climbed, and active minutes, an arc goes around the outside of the face from earth, located at around the 6:30 mark, to the moon, located at around the 5:30 mark. Once all of these goals are met for the week, a picture of the moon landing will appear. To help gauge your progress more precisely, your steps, floors climbed, and active minutes are displayed in the lower left part of the face. Each also has a progress arc that shows your daily progress. By the way, Garmin doesn't provide a daily goal for active minutes, so for this watch face, your daily goal for active minutes is simply your weekly goal divided by seven. In similar fashion, Garmin also doesn't provide a weekly steps or floors climbed goal. For this face your weekly steps goal is simply your daily steps goal times seven, and the same for floors climbed. Other data shown on the face include moon phase, battery remaining, sunrise and sunset times, today's day and date, current heartrate, notification count, current weather conditions and daily forecast, the 3-day forecast, and status icons for alarms, do not disturb, and Bluetooth connection. For today's forecast, once the time reaches sunset or 6pm - whichever comes first, the daily forecast changes to a 3 hour forecast. The color arc beneath each day corresponds to that day's high temperature. Please see the temperature key image for details.
The color of the icons for steps, floors climbed, and active minutes change through shades of red, orange, yellow, and green depending on how you're progressing toward your weekly goals. For instance, let's say your daily step goal is 10000. That means your weekly goal is 70000. If you get 20000 on Monday, the steps icon will be green. It will remain green all day Tuesday even if you get 0 steps because you already have the 20000 you should have by the end of Tuesday. On the other hand, let's say you get 0 steps on Monday. Then on Tuesday you get the full 10000. The icon will still be red because you should have had 10000 when the day started. Hopefully that makes sense, and I know it's a little complicated. But basically, green means you're good, red means you have some work to do.
The analog hands are based on the Omega Speedmaster Professional, known as the moonwatch, which was worn on all 6 lunar landings.
* Your floors climbed goal, steps goal, and active minutes goal must be set to something other than zero or the watch face will not work.
All of my faces are built by WFB, a great web-based app available at https://watchfacebuilder.com.
