Backyard Ultra

Backyard is the companion for any backyard ultra runner. It tells you which lap you're on, how long until the next bell, and — most importantly — whether at your current pace you'll make it back in time to rest. Here's what it does: • It tells you whether you'll make it. That's the main thing: at the pace you're running, it works out how much time you'll have left over to rest before the next bell — or how far behind you are and need to push. • Corral warnings at 3, 2 and 1 minute, with a chime, vibration and the screen going red, so the bell never catches you away from the line. • You set the race start time and the bells anchor to it. It doesn't matter when you press start. • You set the yard's duration and distance, which makes it as useful for training as for racing. • Yards can close themselves, by distance or by GPS when you come back through the start — or by hand with the LAP button, whichever you prefer. • It saves your full activity, with the track, so afterwards you review it in Garmin Connect or anything you've linked, Strava included. • You choose which screens you see and in what order. There are six; keep the ones that help you. • Very light, built to last through long races without eating your watch. • Six languages — English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese — and it picks whichever your watch is set to. • Runs on about a hundred Garmin watches: fēnix, Forerunner, epix, enduro, Venu, vívoactive, Instinct, MARQ and Descent. Ver 1.4.1 - The Margin screen now comes first: it's the one you look at while running. - Pace now appears a minute into the yard instead of a kilometre in. Both pace fields used to sit blank for the first eight minutes of every hour. - The margin appears a minute in too. While the yard's own pace settles, it leans on your average race pace, so the figure no longer jumps whole minutes from one stride to the next. - Auto yard at the finish line is now on by default: a backyard course ends where it started, and marking it by hand thirty times is thirty chances to forget. The LAP button works exactly as before. - Fixed: if GPS hadn't locked when you started the race, the automatic finish line never marked a single yard. The point is now taken at the bell, with you standing on the line. - If you already had the app, these two new defaults don't touch your settings — change them from Settings.
