About
Torque Training Zones — Real-time power, W/kg and pedaling torque
A cycling data field that turns your power meter's raw numbers into a reading you can grasp at a glance, without taking your eyes off the road. It's built for training by load relative to your bodyweight and by pedaling torque, not just raw watts.

WHAT YOU SEE
The center figure is your live W/kg, computed every second from power and your bodyweight (pulled from your Garmin user profile). Around it, as secondary figures, you get power (W), cadence (RPM) and relative torque (Nm/kg). Everything refreshes once per second.
FULL-SCREEN COLOR ZONES
The entire background changes color with your current zone, so the message reaches you before you read a single number:
Blue: low intensity, easy spinning or recovery.
Red: below your optimal band, you're "saving" and could push more.
Green: the optimal adaptation band, where you want to live during quality blocks.
Yellow: strength work, above the optimal band.
Purple: high relative torque warning (Nm/kg over threshold), meaning you're grinding a big gear for your weight. Blue always wins over purple, so a low-cadence coast in recovery won't trigger a false alarm.
The zone boundaries scale with cadence and weight, so the same color means the same effort whether you're spinning at 95 RPM or mashing at 60.
RECORDS EVERYTHING TO YOUR FIT FILE
Every second the field writes your W/kg and your current zone into the activity, plus total time-in-zone for all five zones as session summary fields. After the ride, Garmin Connect shows your W/kg trace and a time-per-zone bar chart, ideal for reviewing the session or handing the FIT to a coach or to a Python/pandas workflow. The FIT always stores the instantaneous value, independent of your on-screen smoothing choice, so your data stays maximally flexible after the ride.
ON-DEVICE SETTINGS, NO PHONE NEEDED
Configure the field right on the watch or Edge:
Smoothing for the on-screen reading: instant, 3-second or 10-second weighted moving average (the FIT keeps the raw value regardless).
Number sizes: pick small, medium or large for both the main W/kg figure and the secondary readouts, so it stays legible on your device and in your layout.
BUILT FOR REAL HARDWARE
Lean and memory-careful by design: fonts and buffers are allocated once, never per frame, so the field stays responsive even when you're running several Connect IQ fields at the same time. Colors are tuned for transflective displays, so the yellow is a fixed, agreed gold tone rather than the neon default and reads the same on your Edge as in the planning view.
REQUIREMENTS
A connected power meter and cadence source.
Your bodyweight set in your Garmin profile (needed for W/kg and torque).
A color, data-field-capable device on Connect IQ 3.1.0 or newer: Edge 520 Plus and up, Forerunner 245/255/265/9xx, fenix 5 Plus and up, epix, Venu, Vivoactive 3 and up, and more.
Drop it into any data screen as a single field or as part of a multi-field layout. Whether you're chasing a target W/kg, protecting your knees from excessive torque, or you just want power that means something relative to you, Torque Training Zones puts it front and center.
