About

Boulder Tracker is an indoor bouldering and climbing session tracker for your Garmin watch. It counts your boulders and routes, auto-detects falls, and lets you log climbs with one button press - paired with a powerful free companion web app for live view, charts, history, personal records and trends. (The automatic HR-based counting is marked as a beta feature, as it is still experimental.) IMPORTANT: The menu must open on a long button press. On most watches it's the lower right button (also known as lap button or back button). HOW IT WORKS The primary counting flow is reliable and simple: - Fall/drop detection (automatic) - accelerometer freefall + impact analysis adds a boulder for every detected fall. - Manual logging (one button) - press SELECT after topping a route. Double-tap within 350 ms to undo. Additionally, an experimental HR-based auto-detection state machine (IDLE to CLIMBING to REST) is available as a BETA feature. It is OFF by default. You can enable it from the long-press menu ("Auto-Count: ON (BETA)") in the MAIN phase. HR-based detection works best with a stable optical heart rate sensor or a chest strap; we keep tuning it across firmware versions and body types. WATCH APP FEATURES - Automatic fall and drop detection (accelerometer freefall + impact) - One-tap boulder logging with double-tap to undo - Optional HR auto-detection (BETA, enable from the menu) - Walking detection suppresses false positives between routes - Multi-page display: main stats, details, boulder timeline, impact, sync, session fingerprint, HR zones, HR timeline - Phase tracking: Warm-up / Climbing / Cool-down - Custom FIT fields: boulder count, drops, phase, HR zone, max impact, impact score - Live sync every 10 seconds to the companion web app COMPANION WEB APP (free) Follow your session live in any browser via QR code - no install needed. After each session: detailed stats, HR zones, trends and personal records. - Live session view (syncs automatically while you climb) - Session history with charts, stats and a 5-axis "session fingerprint" (BETA) - FIT file upload for offline or after-the-fact sessions - Personal records and 4-week trend analysis - Free at https://garmin-boulder-app.web.app SUPPORTED DEVICES Venu 3, Venu 3S, Venu 2, Venu 2 Plus, Venu 4 (41 mm / 45 mm), Forerunner 265, Forerunner 265S, Forerunner 570/965/970, Fenix 8, Fenix 8 Pro, Epix 2, Epix 2 Pro, D2 Air X10, D2 Mach 1/2, Vivoactive 5/6, Approach S50/S70, Descent Mk3/G2, MARQ 2, and more. FREE - No subscription, no ads, no account required on the watch. The companion web app requires a Google account for cross-device history. ACCURACY NOTE We are honest about what is reliable and what is still being tuned. Fall detection and manual logging are accurate. HR-based auto-detection is a BETA experiment - useful, but it may miss short routes or trigger on cardio between climbs. The session fingerprint is also a BETA visualization. The watch always shows you the totals so you can verify and undo with a double-tap. GRADE LOGGING & TOUCH Optional per-climb grade logging uses the touchscreen. On Fenix, Forerunner and Epix watches the touchscreen is off during activities by default - enable Touch during activities in the watch's system settings to use grade logging while recording. Boulder counting, fall detection and live sync work on every supported watch regardless. FEEDBACK & SOURCE Questions, feedback, or bug reports: open an issue on the project page.
