BETA: this version is being tested in real open water swims. If something goes wrong in your swim, please tell me through Contact Developer. Open water swimming activity with automatic rest detection by stroke cadence. Records a real open water swim to your history and Garmin Connect: GPS track, heart rate, stroke count from the wrist accelerometer, calories, laps and water temperature (recorded to the FIT file, shown as charts in Garmin Connect). Why another open water app? Garmin's Auto Pause is speed based and does not work in open water, because GPS drift keeps speed above the threshold even when you stop. MyOpenWater detects rest by stroke cadence instead: about 10 seconds without strokes pauses the timer, a few strokes at swim cadence resume it. Waiting for your group, resting at a boat or standing on the beach stays out of your swim time and pace. Fix from a real swim on September 14: the "swimming in place" rule (pause when you stroke but don't move) was pausing in the middle of normal swimming, 12 times in one session. The GPS position the app reads live is noisier than the track the watch records, so at an easy group pace the 30 second distance dipped under the limit. The rule now only fires when your arm is not in swimming position, so a real stop still pauses and steady swimming is left alone.
