NORD Punkt - Cryptic pixels
· v1.0.0
About
You want to tell the time and read your data at a glance? GOOD LUCK!
But if you want EXTREME minimalism - a watch face that is five pixels and nothing else, and that only you know how to read - this is the one.
HOW TO READ IT
Every square is one value, and the only thing it tells you is how high it sits. Top is full. Bottom is empty. Five columns, left to right:
- Steps - how far you are toward the day's goal
- Heart rate - low is resting, high is working
- The day - midnight at the floor, the next midnight at the ceiling. The bigger square in the theme colour is the clock
- Body Battery - your own charge
- Battery - the watch's
IF YOU RELENT
Two settings, both off by default:
- Show tracks - a faint dotted line behind each column, so a height has something to be high or low against
- Show values - a small figure beside each square: the count, the beat, the time
Turn both on and it is a readable watch face. Turn both off and it is a riddle again.
THE SCALES
- Steps are measured against your watch's own daily goal - the one that adjusts itself as you go
- Heart rate is measured against your own range: your resting heart rate at the floor, your max heart rate at the ceiling. It drifts the way you do, over weeks, never day to day
- Body Battery and battery are simply percent
EIGHT THEMES
- Dis, Skog, Glöd, Natt, Grafit - tinted grounds, cool haze to forest to ember
- Svart - white on black
- Vit - black on white
- Skugga - dark grey on black. There, but only just
DETAILS
- Always-on is the same face, dimmed. Five squares are nowhere near an AMOLED's burn-in limit, so nothing has to be hidden at night. On memory-in-pixel watches the face simply stays.
- There is no text anywhere by default, so there is nothing to translate. It reads the same in every language.
- On round screens each column runs as far as the circle allows - the middle one longest, the outer ones shorter - so the dial's shape shows in the columns themselves.
- 98 Garmin watches, round and rectangular, from 240 pixels upward.
SETTINGS
- Colour theme
- Show tracks
- Show values
Heart rate and Body Battery need a watch that records them. Where a reading is missing, the column stays empty rather than claiming anything.
ABOUT
Hi!
This is my third watch face, and the strangest. It came from asking how little a watch face could show and still be honest, and the answer turned out to be five squares. I'm from Sweden, currently working at Mojang (the creator of Minecraft) and I train a lot, including running, which got me into designing and developing a bit nerdy styled watch faces that I wanted myself.
Your feedback is genuinely welcome, and if you have any requests, a data field is missing, if you would like another theme, or if your watch is not on the list, please let me know!
I read everything and I aim to respond, there are many more faces on the way and I want to improve them.
