Distance Wandred

A data field to display the new distance covered by your current activity as reported by Wandrer.earth. To use this, one must have an account on https://wandrer.earth/. The data field requires a key which is found in the settings for your wandrer.earth account. In the settings this will be the key for using the browser extension for wandrer, it is not your account user id or password. The field will display either miles or km depending on what Wandrer returns to it. It will also write the distance wandered to the fit file and this will appear as a chart in Garmin Connect. , The information added to the FIT file is always charted as 'miles', because unfortunately there is no way to change that information on the fly. After configuring a data field to use this, it will update about every sixteen minutes with the unique distance covered, or you can tap it to update more frequently. The field will gray out while this happens, or if it is pressed more often than every five minutes. This data field requires an active connection to the internet via the Garmin Connect app on your phone when it tries to update the new distance covered. At present it will retry only once when the connection fails, so the mileage indicated may not be complete. This won't affect what you see when you finish your ride and it uploads to Wandrer.earth, just what's on your Garmin. Will display a visual alert if tapped when either the Wandrer.earth key is not configured or the phone is not connected. Displaying an alert requires giving permission in the settings for the activity profile which you are using, under Alerts/Connect IQ data fields. Gives an audio alert every ten new miles or km, configurable in settings. Setting the distance for notification to zero disables this feature. If using this on a watch rather than an Edge device, a one field layout is recommended for now. I'm not an expert at watch layouts.
