About

This widget shows the angle of an inclined plane - with the widget showing pitch, roll, and overall combined incline of your device. May be used as a level or to calculate slope angle. The widget will freeze/unfreeze the current screen reading using the DOWN button. The Glance also displays a secondary alpha angle indicator - showing at a glance whether your incline is greater than or less than 18 degrees. (Alpha Angle is an important concept and measurement in avalanche-prone areas - the use Tim had in mind when writing this app. See https://backcountrymagazine.com/stories/mountain-skills-alpha-angle/ ) Great for skiing or snowboarding in the backcountry or ski touring, mountaineering and alpinism, or any time a level or slope indicator is needed. This is a simple, basic but very useful function of any Garmin device! ******** This is a slightly updated version Tim Zander's Slope Widget for Garmin devices, known as "Inclinometer" in the Garmin Connect IQ Store. See: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/28eff151-31d2-4702-b1e9-79bcc1efe6c0 https://github.com/TimZander/slope-widget I have made only a few changes to Tim's Glance/Widget: * Reduced criterion for "LEVEL" from 2 degrees to 0.1 degrees, potentially making the widget more usable for applications like carpentry or construction, where more precise gradations of level are important (obviously, double-check your device's accuracy and consistency before relying on it for critical applications). * For Instinct devices, changed the colors to work with the monochrome graphics. * Added combined slope/inclination reading (degrees) in the center of the Widget display. The widget displays pitch slope (top or bottom of the display, depending on which way it is tilted) and roll slope (left/right side of the display). The combined slope combines those two to show the slope angle of the device from its current highest point to lowest. When level to less than 0.1 degrees, the display will show LEVEL. * Made various tweaks to font size, justification, and other details to make the widget more compatible with different devices, screen shapes, and sizes. * The degree symbol did not display properly on a number of devices, so I simply removed it. * Compiled this version widget only for devices that Tim did not compile the widget for - which are mostly newer devices since Tim's widget was last updated in 2022. If your device is not listed here, look up Tim's Inclinometer app: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/28eff151-31d2-4702-b1e9-79bcc1efe6c0 Tim's app & source code was released with an Apache-2.0 license, and this version is released with the same.

What's new

V 1.0: * DOWN button (or swipe) will freeze the screen & current measurement. * Compatible with MANY more devices. * Reduced criterion for "level" from 2 degrees to 0.1 degrees - potentially making the Widget more useful in applications where more precise gradations of level are important. * Always displays overall incline (center of display) * Many font, color, and formatting tweaks for compatibility with different devices. Note that this app depends on the accelerometer data from your device. If you device does not have accelerometer data, or it is inaccurate, there is not much an app can do about it!
