Running Economy
· v1.1.3
About
This is a simple data field that measures your relative running economy, which is a value based on how many heart beats it takes to cover a certain distance. It represents how far and how fast you can run for a given amount of energy, i.e. how efficiently you run. Because it is based on heart rate, and incorporates your resting heart rate, it is specific to you. You can use it, for example, by learning what sort of average values you tend to run at and then track improvements over time.
See http://fellrnr.com/wiki/Running_Economy
Measurement obviously requires you to run with a HRM. In addition to displaying a momentary value for recent running economy (an average over the last 30 seconds), the data field also records this and averages for each lap and the whole session into the FIT file. This information is then displayed in Garmin Connect after uploading your run.
Running Economy is also available in Flexirunner, a more advanced all-in-one multi-display data field for single field layouts. See https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/ce1e0b46-7c83-4ddb-9d48-c93edadabe3d
