About

[GARMIN DISCLAIMER] This app is intended only as an in-flight aid and should NOT be used as a primary information source. This app contains a barometric altimeter, as such it will not function in a pressurized aircraft and should NOT be used in a pressurized aircraft. DESCRIPTION This free and open-source application provides Variometer functions adapted to non-extreme flight activities such as Sailplanes,. !!!! This app is NOT for paragliding, it is strictly for NON-EXTREME activities such as sailplanes. Do NOT use this app for extreme flight sports !!!! My Vario is a BACKUP source of information and should ALWAYS be paired with specialized variometer equipment! Watch sensors are simply not precise enough and THIS APP SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A PRIMARY FLIGHT INSTRUMENT! USAGE You really, really want to go through the Manual before first use, and test the application at home! See below USAGE manual. https://github.com/ydutertre/myvario/blob/main/USAGE The app is based on the excellent open-source Garmin IQ Sailplane GliderSK application by Cedric Dufour (licensed under GPL v3.0, just like My Vario is), dropping a lot of features for a simpler/leaner experience. 1. Dashboards Multiple views/dashboards are available. - a Global view, displaying all flight data in a single pane: altitude, ground and vertical speeds, finesse, heading, wind direction and speed estimate, if available (wind direction and speed are computed on the fly based on groundspeeds when circling) - a Variometer view, where the vertical speed can be visually seen - a Varioplot/thermal assistant view, allowing to keep track of your ascent/descent rate along your flight path - a Map view (only on supported devices) showing your current location as well as a tracklog (updated every 10 seconds) on a GarminMap - a Competition View, guiding you to the next waypoint, etc. - a Log view, allowing to keep track of your last activities (unavailable during flight) including flight start and end times, maximum and minimum altitudes, etc. An option to auto-switch to and from the varioplot/thermal assistant view automatically (based on circling auto-detection) is available. 2. Tone and vibration curves The application makes use of the watch beeps and vibrations (if available). - Variable-frequency tones to "sound" your ascent rate, as well as vibration-based "tones" to fly in silence. These tones follow closely some popular variometer tone curves (sound frequency/pitch, tone to tone or vibration to vibration pause time, tone/vibration length - all depending on vertical speed) - a minimum climb rate setting is available, under which sounds or vibrations won't be triggered - a sink rate threshold setting is available, for warning of strong sink 3. Live tracking - Livetracking via Livetrack24, FlySafe, and SportsTrackLive is available, to share your activities with others in real time 4. HUD with ActiveLook - The App will pair to ActiveLook glasses and stream the following information in real time throughout the flight: Altitude MSL, vertical speed, glide ratio, groundspeed, and heading 5. Under the hood - The application uses a Kalman filter for fast and accurate filtering of altitude and vertical speed - The smoothing (and latency) applied by the Kalman filter can be changed in the settings - The default settings are optimized for a comfortable experience out of the box NOTES: I have tested this app extensively in flight to test all of the features. However, please remember that this app is intended only as an in-flight aid and should NOT be used as a primary information source. And should NOT be used in a pressurized aircraft. !!!! Again, this app is NOT for paragliding, it is strictly for NON-EXTREME activities such as sailplanes. Do NOT use this app for extreme flight sports !!!!

What's new

Recent changes: * 6.23 - Fix ActiveLook in the blind * 6.22 - Fix regression introduced by custom views: altitude and vertical speed were no longer displayed unless GPS fix was available - The following values are now correctly displayed when GPS fix is unavailable: Heartbeat, Flight Time, WP Altitude, Comp Status, Start Time, Task Left, Start In * 6.21 - The bottom field (currently local time) of the vario view can now be customized. To do so, go to Variometer - Bottom value in the settings. * 6.20 - It is now possible to change the variometer view so that the indicators take the entirety of the screen. To do this, in the settings, go to Variometer - Vario View and set it to either Ring (default) or Large. * 6.11 - Added ability to input tasks from QR Code (once read as strings) based on the XCTSKv2 format, which is used by XCTrack. * 6.10 - Added Task Map overview: review cylinders and path on a map - Added Task Overview: same as above, but without the map overlay, for devices without maps - Added Total Distance and Optimal Distance information for the task * 6.01 - Minor scrolling bug fix * 6.00 - Added competition mode and related screens and indicators - This is in BETA! Please provide feedback when trying it. - Please refer to USAGE to check how to use * 5.11 - Added Thermal Climb as available indicator (how much was climbed during current circling) - Added 30s Climb as available indicator (how much was climbed in the last 30s) - Added Flight Time as available indicator * 5.10 - Added Altitude Chart available in the 2-indicator view - Added Heartbeat available as an indicator in any view - Removed preferences grouping in Connect IQ to work around a Garmin bug :( * 5.00 - Major change: it is now possible to create you own custom pages with 2, 4, or 7 indicators. You can then specify which indicators (such as ground speed, glide ratio, etc.) you wish to display on each page. This should greatly help visibility of the indicators on smaller watches. *4.32 - Add support for FR570 *4.31 - Bug Fix * 4.30 - Added wind arrow on General Information page, "stolen" from the My Vario Lite fork "GlideApp" by Pablo Castro * 4.23 - Add notification when Vector Vario connects and disconnects - Fix conflict between watch and VV-computed vario/climb rate values
