Grande Traversee — Race Countdown
· vv2.0
About
The day counts itself down, on your wrist.
Set the date of your race once, from your phone. The watch face does the rest:
the race logotype at the top, the time inside a crimson band across the screen
like a race number, and the number of days left, worked out by the watch every
day.
WHAT YOU SEE
• The race logotype — the real one, drawn as artwork, not typed in a system font
• A crimson band across the screen, with the time inside it
• A gauge inside that band: how far into your preparation window you are
• The date and the days to go, on one line
• Active minutes this week, resting heart rate, battery
IT DOES NOT EXPIRE
The race date is a setting, not a constant. Change it and the face starts again
for the next edition — or for a different race entirely.
SET IT UP FROM YOUR PHONE
Garmin Connect - Connect IQ - Watch Faces - this face - Settings.
A watch face has no way to take input on the device itself, so everything is
set from the phone or from Garmin Express.
Race date, written as YYYY-MM-DD. Slashes and dots work too.
Preparation window, in days — 180 by default. That is what the gauge covers.
Type a date the face cannot read and it simply says so, rather than showing a
number that would be wrong.
ON BATTERY
Black is a pixel that is off on an AMOLED screen, and the face is black. In
always-on mode the filled band becomes two thin rules and the clock steps down
a size — fewer lit pixels, for the hours your wrist is down.

The logotype is embedded at eleven sizes, one per screen class, so it is never
rescaled on the fly. On the 1-bit Instinct screens it is reduced to the script
alone — the two lines of capitals close up at that size — and the layout starts
below the round sub-window, because that sub-window is part of the same screen.
What's new
2.0 — The race brand, properly.
The face now carries the actual La Grande Traversee logotype, embedded as
artwork at eleven sizes — one per screen class — instead of the race name set
in a system font. The preparation ring is gone: the time now sits inside a
crimson band running across the screen, like a race number, with the
preparation gauge along the bottom of that band.
The "Title on the face" setting has been removed: the logotype has taken its
place. Race date and preparation window are unchanged.
Checked in the simulator on eleven screen classes, from 163 to 454 pixels,
awake and always-on.
