Naturally, high-resolution displays were nonexistent. I recently rescued an antique watch with 8-segment LCDs and dot-matrix screens as state-of-the-art at that bygone time. Over forty years old and clearly well-worn, it still works perfectly—a tangible message from the era when digital technology first promised the future in tiny glowing numbers on your wrist.
