Chain Care
· v1.1.1
About
Chain Care helps you keep track of when your bicycle chain is due for service, re-waxing, or replacement. It is a cycling data field for compatible Garmin Edge cycling computers and Garmin watches.
Set your service interval, add Chain Care to a cycling activity profile, and start recording your ride. Your chain distance adds up across rides, even while another data page is on screen. When you reach your chosen interval, Chain Care displays a service reminder.
FEATURES
• Chain distance with two decimal places, distance remaining, and a progress bar with 25% marks and a moving percentage.
• Choose a service interval from 50 to 5000 km or miles.
• Automatically follows your Garmin device's distance-unit setting.
• Keeps your accumulated chain distance when the app is updated.
• Reset the counter after servicing your chain using the on-device settings or the Mark chain serviced setting in Connect IQ. Full-screen rectangular touchscreen layouts also offer SET and RESET / CONFIRM buttons.
CYCLING COMPUTERS AND WATCHES
Compatible devices include Edge 540, 550, 840, 850, 1040, 1050, and Edge MTB, plus supported models in the Enduro, fēnix, Forerunner, Instinct, Venu, vívoactive, tactix, and D2 families. Layouts adapt to rectangular, round, and monochrome screens. See the Compatible Devices tab for the complete list of supported models and sizes.
GETTING STARTED
1. Add Chain Care as a data field to each cycling activity profile you want to track.
2. Set your preferred interval through the data field's on-device settings, Connect IQ settings, or the full-screen SET button where available.
3. Start the activity recording timer and ride. On Edge devices, enable Connect IQ alerts in the activity profile settings for service reminders.
4. Reset the counter after your next chain service.
Chain Care counts rides recorded with the data field installed in the active profile; it does not import past Garmin Connect activities. Updating preserves your saved distance, but uninstalling the data field may remove it. Your chosen interval is a reminder, not a measurement of chain wear.
What's new
Your chain-service progress is now easier to read at a glance.
• A thicker progress bar, clearer 25% marks, and a larger moving percentage.
• On colour displays, the bar changes from green through amber and orange to red as service approaches.
• More breathing room between your ride information, progress bar, and SET / RESET buttons.
• Improved round-watch layouts keep the percentage inside the screen, including at 100%.
• Better spacing on Venu X1 and a compact layout that stays clear of the Instinct 3 Solar inset display.
Your saved chain distance and service interval stay in place when you update.
