About

GARMIN WARNING: This widget is intended only as a flight planning aid and is NOT for in-flight use and should NOT be used as a primary information source. The widget uses barometric altimeter data from the watch/device and it will not function properly in a pressurized environment and should not be used in a pressurized aircraft. The Temperature widget is based *heavily* on Garmin built-in temperature widget (for the D2™ Bravo) but is designed to work with the Garmin tempe™. Major improvements over the built-in Temperature widget (on D2™ Bravo): • works with the Garmin tempe™ external sensor (REQUIRED unless watch/device supports CIQ 2.1.x or greater) • temperature and altitude units are configured independently from watch settings • elevation box can be configured to display elevation, density altitude or temperature in other units • remembers last temperature reading if connection to tempe is lost -- arc color is green (current), yellow (less than 15 minutes old) or red (less than 1hr old) Drawbacks: • when a Garmin tempe™ sensor is NOT found will only display temperature from internal watch sensor on devices that support CIQ 2.1.x or higher (due to Connect IQ limitations) • no access to mix/max temperature values from the tempe™ sensor (this is limitation of Connect IQ in the way the tempe™ is accessed but I may change this in the future if there's demand) • if using an older device (D2 Bravo/Fenix 3 series) then it cannot be used during an activity (this is a limitation of older watches) NOTE: Please do not leave suggestions, requests or bug reports in the reviews. Instead, please use the "Contact Developer" button above; I will endeavour to reply to everyone. Or alternatively, post a comment in the forums here: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?364911-Widget-Temperature TROUBLESHOOTING: The Garmin tempe™ (external temperature sensor) is REQUIRED -- this widget will not currently work with built in sensor (due to Connect IQ limitations). If no temperature is displayed, ensure that the required Garmin tempe™ sensor is paired and connected and that you wait at least 30 seconds (the tempe™ sensor only reports temperature every 30 seconds). Technical Details: • The density altitude calculation is done using the dry air formula (dew point is not taken into account). You can read more about the various calculations on the "Density altitude" Wikipedia page. • The density altitude calculation is only as accurate as the data from the watch. The calculation uses the elevation (altitude) returned by the watch, which (at least on the D2 Bravo) is based on the barometric pressure and then adjusted using the altimeter setting (QNH) from the nearest METAR -- this is all done automatically by the watch. • The density altitude calculation is only as accurate as the data from the Garmin tempe sensor. If the Garmin tempe is missing or hasn't had time to accurately reflect the ambient temperature then the calculation will be incorrect. *** IMPORTANT: *** This widget should be used for informational purposes only. Although every attempt has been made to ensure the proper temperature is displayed and density altitude is properly calculated, neither of the data points displayed by the widget should be used as a primary source when flight planning. Always ensure you do proper flight planning using data/information from official sources. You accept all responsibility for any activities for which this widget is used or relied on for.
