UV Guard tracks the real-time UV index at your location and tells you exactly when to reapply your sunscreen, so you never get caught off guard by the sun. HOW IT WORKS When you open UV Guard, it automatically fetches your GPS location and retrieves the current UV index from a live weather data source. Based on your skin type and the SPF of your sunscreen, it calculates how long you are protected and starts a countdown timer. When the timer runs out, your watch vibrates to remind you to reapply, even if the app is running in the background. SMART CALCULATION UV Guard uses the scientifically established relationship between UV index, skin type, and SPF to calculate your protection time. It also accounts for real-world sunscreen application — most people apply less than the recommended amount, so UV Guard factors in a realistic effective SPF to give you a safer, more accurate result. ACTIVITY MODE Sunscreen doesn't last the same amount of time in every situation. UV Guard adjusts your reapplication timer based on what you are doing: • Dry / Normal: standard 120-minute maximum • Sweating / Sports: reduced to 80 minutes • Swimming / Water sports: reduced to 40 minutes SKIN TYPE & SPF SETTINGS Configure UV Guard once in the Garmin Connect app and it remembers your preferences: • Skin Type I: Very fair, always burns • Skin Type II: Fair, usually burns • Skin Type III: Medium, sometimes burns • Skin Type IV: Olive, rarely burns • Skin Type V: Brown, very rarely burns • Skin Type VI: Dark, almost never burns Supported SPF values: 15, 30, 50, and 100. REAPPLY BUTTON Just applied sunscreen? Press the action button to instantly log a reapplication and reset the timer — no need to restart the app or re-fetch UV data. COLOR-CODED UV DISPLAY The UV index and progress arc are color-coded so you can read your risk level at a glance: • Green: Low (0–2) • Yellow: Moderate (3–5) • Orange: High (6–7) • Red: Very High (8–10) • Purple: Extreme (11+) WHY IT MATTERS Most people reapply sunscreen based on guesswork or simply forget.
