About

A Hebrew watch face that knows when Shabbat begins. SHABBAT TIMES ARE OFF UNTIL YOU TURN THEM ON. After installing, open the face's settings on your phone (Connect IQ app or Garmin Connect) and set "זמני שבת וחג לפי מיקום" to Israel or Diaspora. That sends your approximate location (rounded to about 1 km), time zone, dates and choice to Hebcal.com, which calculates candle-lighting and Havdalah times. Nothing else is sent. Setting it back to off stops all requests and deletes the stored times. From five minutes before candle lighting until five minutes after Havdalah — Shabbat and every Yom Tov, on any weekday — the face switches by itself to a full Hebrew layout: "Shabbat Shalom!" or "Chag Sameach!" ("Shana Tova!", "Gmar Chatima Tova"), the Hebrew and Gregorian dates, the time, the parasha or holiday, and when Shabbat or the holiday ends. Purim, Chanukah and Chol HaMoed keep the weekday face. Candle lighting is 18 minutes before sunset everywhere; Havdalah is at nightfall. Times refresh when you travel. THE REST OF THE WEEK — a large clock and the date in Hebrew, heart rate, battery, notifications and steps. On Friday and the eve of a holiday: the candles (with the candle-lighting time in the paid version); other days: the next sunrise or sunset. FREE, WITH ONE OPTIONAL PURCHASE Free: the automatic Shabbat and Yom Tov face with the parasha and when Shabbat or the holiday ends, the candles on Friday, the Israel/Diaspora choice and the always-on display. The optional one-time purchase (US$9.99, through Gumroad, not Garmin) adds: the candle-lighting time on Friday and the eve of a holiday; what each of the four weekday slots shows (steps, runs, distance, calories, intensity minutes, floors, temperature, Body Battery, stress, recovery time and more — not every watch has every value); what the Shabbat face's bottom line shows; and the clock's colour (10 colours; on the Forerunner 55 some look alike). The last screenshot shows these options. No trial, no subscription; nothing free today will be locked later. How to buy: copy the "watch code" from the settings (the watch also shows it for 10 minutes after you save a paid choice), pay at nitzshy.gumroad.com/l/shaonshabbat and enter it there. Your unlock code is emailed within 24 hours, not on Shabbat or holidays; enter it under "קוד פתיחה". It works on that watch, also after reinstalling. Replaced your watch? Email me for a new code at no charge. Refunds: full refund within 30 days, just ask. FOR SHABBAT — set the watch once: • AMOLED watches (Venu, vívoactive 5/6, Forerunner 165/265/965/970, epix, fēnix 8 and others): turn on Always On display — the face stays visible in a dim version with the greeting, Hebrew date, time, parasha and when Shabbat ends — and turn off Gesture (raise to wake) and, if you like, touch. Battery saver and sleep settings can turn Always On off; check them. Always On uses more battery. • Other watches: the screen is always visible; turn off the backlight on gesture and on alerts. Menu names differ by model; try the setup on an ordinary evening first. REQUIREMENTS: a GPS fix or Garmin weather on the watch (older models without weather need a GPS fix), and Garmin Connect on your phone — on an iPhone it must keep running in the background.
