About
This data field estimates your VO2max for rowing. The estimate is based on thousands of data points from tests of both hightly trained and novice/inexperienced rowing athletes.
# Features
* 3 Modes
1) Manual (indoor rowing)
2) Indoor with a rower paired to your Garmin watch. The rower must provide distance data (See https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=rlynVxyyoq9dcSZGw5YFo8 for details).
3) Open water (outdoor)
* Saves VO2max results to the activity session record for viewing in Garmin Connect
# Instructions
1) For Manual indoor mode
Add the data field to your rowing activity.
Set the mode in the data field setting to "Manual indoor"
Perform a warm up
To begin the test, start the activity on your Garmin watch
Row as quickly as you can for a 2km distance
Press [STOP] on your Garmin watch. The estimated VO2max should be displayed.
Save the activity
NOTE: There is an option to use the LAP button in manual indoor mode to mark the end of 2km and record VO2max. Subsequent presses of the LAP button can be done to mark the 4km, 6km etc mark to record new values for VO2max.
2) For "Indoor with paired rower" mode
For this mode, the rower must provide distance data (See https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=rlynVxyyoq9dcSZGw5YFo8 for details).
Add the data field to your rowing activity.
Set the mode in the data field setting to "Indoor with paired rower"
Start the activity on your Garmin watch and begin rowing.
The first estimate of VO2max will be displayed after 2000m is completed.
Subsequest updates of VO2max will be given every 100m
When desired, stop and save the activity
3) For "Open water" mode
Add the data field to your rowing activity.
Set the mode in the data field setting to "Open water"
Start the activity on your Garmin watch
When GPS is displayed as "Ready", press [START] and begin rowing.
The first estimate of VO2max will be displayed after 2000m is completed.
Subsequest updates of VO2max will be given every 100m
When desired, stop and save the activity
NOTES:
1) For the "Highly trained" setting, turn this on if you are an elite, national team and top college rower. A highly trained rower will have been rowing regularly for several years, training at least four days per week, doing a variety of workout types and improving their rowing score
2) For indoor rowing, the rower damper should be set to the setting that enables you to get the best 2000m result.
