About
■ The Problem ■
Your body sends signals every day — weight, blood pressure, temperature, heart rate. But read in isolation, they lose their context. A BMI doesn't distinguish between athleticism and atrophy. A single blood pressure reading says nothing about your nervous system. If you only stare at individual numbers, you miss the architecture beneath.
■ The Idea ■
Inner Compass translates weight and body fat into real values: muscle mass, fat mass, FFMI, and basal metabolic rate — via a compartment model by Professor Heinen. BIA measurements fluctuate daily; the app learns your trend — like the difference between daily temperature and climate average. If you have a DEXA scan, you calibrate to the gold standard.
The visceral index and metabolic age are your control variables. The visceral index shows how urgent fat reduction is — because visceral fat drives inflammation and metabolic derailment. Metabolic age shows whether your ratio of fat to muscle mass corresponds to that of a younger or older person — and thus whether you should move more: strength and endurance to secure insulin sensitivity, reduce oxidative stress, and maintain metabolic balance. Both values belong in the green zone. From this follows your nutrient requirement — needs-based protein, minimal carbohydrates, fat as energy carrier. With a visceral index above 12, the app switches to recomposition: 84% of activity expenditure, increased protein.
■ What You See ■
• Muscle mass, FFMI, visceral index, metabolic age — at a glance
• BMR and nutrient requirements — activity-precise, with automatic recomposition
• Physiological goal: actual and target values side by side
• FIT upload: blood pressure and body composition directly into Garmin Connect
■ Under the Hood ■
What your body knows: The Index of Functional Change (IFC) based on Baievski shows whether your nervous system is under chronic strain — as an early warning signal, not a diagnosis. Elevated core temperature also factors in as an indicator of systemic stress.
What remains: Not a momentary snapshot — a longitudinal instrument. Over weeks, it reveals whether interventions are working: at the cellular level, not just on the scale.
The bigger story: You are the advocate of a superorganism of billions of cells. The numbers are answers — whoever understands them can better advocate for it.
The theoretical foundation: [My Essential Health Compass](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GH2M5RPK ) — the seven biological vicious cycles of aging and the systemic protocol that interrupts them.

What's new
v1.7.27 – What's new?
Several improvements around body analysis and activity profile:
New 24×7 activity measurement – Mean MET (PAL)
• Optionally enabled: your measured activity level derived directly from your watch's heart-rate data – requires daily 24×7 wear.
• Once active, the measured value feeds into BMR, AMR, DCI and macros – regardless of whether your configured Garmin Activity Class (AC) still matches your everyday life.
• In addition, InnerCompass now detects automatically whether you qualify as an athlete by physiological criteria – from the combination of FFMI, Mean MET and metabolic rate. No more guesswork on the manual athlete switch; the brief calibration phase is shown transparently.
• "Mean MET" and "Auto Athlete" can be shown or hidden individually in the settings, just like every other value.
DEXA calibration now for all scales
• The DEXA calibration introduced in v1.7.16 for the InBody H30 now applies to all supported scales. A single DEXA scan is enough – from then on every scale reports a clinically close body fat value.
v1.7.16 – What's new?
Optional DEXA calibration for InBody H30 measurements. If you have access to a DEXA scan, you can now calibrate the H30's body fat analysis to the clinical gold standard.
The BF% stabilization from v1.7.15 compensates for daily fluctuations. BIA measurements are based on electrical current flowing through the body – certain tissue types and tissue layers are less accurately captured than others. The difference to your actual body fat percentage varies from person to person but remains constant over time. A single DEXA scan is enough to capture it:
1. Complete the learning phase (~14 days of daily measurements with the H30).
2. Measure in the morning as usual with the H30.
3. Have a DEXA scan done on the same day.
4. Enter the DEXA value once in Settings → "Last DEXA Body Fat%".
InnerCompass calculates your personal correction offset and applies it to all future H30 measurements. Recommendation: repeat once a year. This feature applies exclusively to InBody H30 measurements.
The value in InnerCompass may now differ more from the H30's display – the scale shows its raw value, InnerCompass shows the value closest to your true body fat percentage.
v1.7.15 – What's new?
Individual BF% stabilization for the InBody H30. Body fat readings fluctuate from day to day – even when nothing has actually changed. InnerCompass now learns from your past measurements how your body typically fluctuates, and compensates for it:
Personal profile – the algorithm adapts to you with every measurement.
Trend over daily snapshot – a weighted trend filters outliers and shows the real direction.
Active from the very first measurement – with growing accuracy over time.
Result: Less noise, more reliable trends – and the confidence that a change in body fat is a real one.
Why does the value differ from the scale's display? The scale shows you the raw value of the current measurement – influenced by how much you've had to drink, whether you measure in the morning or evening, or right after exercise. InnerCompass individually corrects this value and shows you the stabilized body fat percentage instead. Think of the difference between daily temperature and climate average: both are "correct", but only one shows you where things are heading. The value on the scale's display is your daily reading. The value in InnerCompass is your personal trend.
v1.7.13 – What's new?
The biggest addition is support for the InBody Dial H30 – the successor to the legendary Tanita BC-1000. With 8 electrodes on hands and feet and three measurement frequencies, it sets the new consumer standard for body composition scales – far beyond what foot-only scales like the BC-1000 can deliver. You can now start a full body analysis directly from your Garmin watch, step on the scale, and measure as usual.
v1.7.6 – Better Age Algorithms
BREAKING CHANGE: Improved BMR Formula
• Metabolic age is now less sensitive, with more
