Quiet Relics: The Great Engineer

Long after its makers vanished, the instrument continued to observe. The Great Engineer was created by a civilization that understood time, weather, celestial motion, and energy as parts of one precise system. Its mechanisms were not built merely to measure the world, but to remain connected to it. At the top of the face, the Sun Stone follows the rhythm of the wearer’s day. Using local sunrise and sunset information when available, its underlying color changes gradually through night, dawn, daylight, sunset, and evening. Current weather conditions alter the special lens above the Sun Stone: Yellow for clear daylight Orange for clear conditions near sunset Deep purple for a clear night Orange for clouds and wind Teal for rain Blue for snow Purple for thunderstorms Green for mixed precipitation Pink for ice, freezing rain, fog, and muted air conditions Red for severe weather conditions The strength of the Sun Stone’s glow also responds to the day’s reported high temperature. At the right, the Moon Stone displays the current lunar phase. When location information is available, it uses the wearer’s position and current time to estimate whether the Moon is above the local horizon. When location data is unavailable, the artifact automatically falls back to a lunar-cycle estimate. When the Moon is estimated to be below the local horizon, the Moon Stone returns to its dark obsidian bead. When the Moon is above the horizon, its current phase is revealed. During the New Moon, a hidden key appears upon the obsidian surface. Full moons receive colors inspired by their traditional monthly names. At the bottom, the Ember Stone represents remaining battery power. When current weather information is unavailable, the watch face may temporarily retain the last successfully received weather lens. The Moon Stone provides an astronomical estimate and is not intended as a professional moonrise, navigation, or observatory instrument. Severe-weather colors are visual representations only. This watch face does not provide official emergency alerts and should not replace a dedicated weather-warning service. The Sun Stone Menu The Sun Stone is an astronomical relic from another world, built to read the cycles of a sky that no longer exists. Somehow, when awakened here, it attunes itself to our sun, our seasons, and our weather. Press and hold the Nine to enter the Relic Chamber and open its weather interface. Once active, the relic translates real Garmin forecast data into the language of its original makers: moving rings, recessed channels, mechanical markers, and condition colors that glow from within the artifact. At its center, the Sun Stone reveals the current temperature along with the day’s high, low and current Wx. Around it, an hourly forecast ring follows the clock, placing upcoming conditions where they will occur. A second outer channel shows the next four days, allowing the relic to be read at a glance.
