About

This widget provides a forecast of marine tides for over 2000 locations worldwide and is completely standalone and does not require any WIFI/Bluetooth connection nor subscription to any third party service. It computes the tide forecast real time using harmonics constituents from periodic motions of the Earth, Sun, and Moon for any date in the past or the future (see restriction below). Widget first use: when the widget is first open after installation, the screen will say "no stations". Just swipe left or use the Menu button to go to the map screen and scroll toward a coast to select a station. To have the map show near where you are located, run an activity with GPS to make sure a recent location is available for the widget. If no recent location is available on the watch, the widget will attempt to center the map based on the timezone in the northern hemisphere. This may require panning the map multiple time to get to a coast with stations. As of V2.0 swiping down while in the map screen or using the menu button while in the map screen will switch to a menu to select stations. Some key features: - Forecast can be advanced by one day by swiping down (going back by one day is a swipe up) as of V2.0. prior version forecasted day change was done by tapping arrows next to the date. Up/Down buttons can also be used to change the day. - Aggregate contributions of the moon and sun to the tide are separated out in addition to the actual forecasted tide level - the tide values are provided with respect to the mean sea level (MSL) only prior to V3.0. V3.0 adds support for LAT and MLLW references in additon to MSL. Datums can be selected by holding the touch screen on the y axis (or using the connect IQ settings) - the moon phase and elevation as well as sun elevation are provided on the display. - The station location supported can be selected using the map accessed by swiping left or using the menu button (Maps not available for Venu2 and 3). Using the menu button in the map switches to a menu based configuration - Predicted tide have been found to be within a few centimeters of actual tides and predicted tides from other sources for the few stations tested against. However, only a few stations have been checked and given the size of the database, there is no guarantee explicit or implied that these predictions can be trusted. Restrictions: - While any date in the past and the future can be computed and accessible by repeatedly requesting the next day or (prior day), there is currently a limitation to January 19, 2038 due to the fact that Garmin devices are susceptible to the Year 2038 bug (time is captured with only 32 bits in Connect IQ). This is unlikely to be a problem short term as one would have to swipe more than 5000 times to get to the critical date. Similarly the computation will not work for dates in the past prior to January 1st 1970. The widget can be controlled fully by touch or fully with the buttons per the screenshots provided. What's new

V3.3: added ~200 stations worldwide V3.2: fixed bug for Venu series station selection with tide datum V3.1: Added support for Fenix 8 Pro and Venu 4 V3.0: Added support for MLLW and LAT datums in additon to the existing Mean Sea level. This requires re-selecting the station as the database has been updated. The new Datums do not account for global rising sea levels over long period of times with respect to nautical charts due to tectonic plate elevation changes or global water levels changes from temperature changes. The selection of the datums is done either though the settings (using the connect IQ app on your phone) or by holding the touch screen on the y-axis. V2.3: Added support for FR970 and vivoactive 6. Added touch panning (hold and wait for the blue circle before panning) V2.2: Added support for Fenix 8, Enduro 3, Descent MK3 and MARQ Gen 2 V2.1: Added support for Venu 2 and 3. These watches do not have map support so the selection goes straight to the menu based configuration V2.0: Added menu based station selection. Menu based configuration is accessed by using the menu button (holding the menu button for 2sec) or swiping down when in map mode. Switching between days is now done by swiping up and down on the main screen as opposed to tapping the small arrows. Added epix 2 pro. Let me know what you think of the new features. V1.4: Corrected bug causing app to crash if buttons are used to try to toggle stations when no station is selected (first launch) V1.3: Added support for Fenix 7 Pro line V1.2: Added support for Epix2, Fr955 and Fr965 V1.1 - improve messaging when widget is first started and no station is selected - fixed back button in map mode not selecting the station so that it behaves like swipe right - improved location estimation when no activity with GPS has been run
