Ascent — Step Expedition
· v1.9.4
About
Every step you take is distance on the mountain. But steps alone will not get you to the summit.
Ascent is an idle expedition game where your own body drives the climb. Most step games count one thing. Ascent reads five, and they cannot be traded against each other.
- **Your steps** are the distance you cover along the route.
- **Your floors climbed** are real vertical metres — the scarce resource.
- **Your Body Battery is your stamina.** Climb on an exhausted body and you move at a quarter speed. No upgrade in the game can buy that away.
- **Your stress is the weather.** High stress means gale and storm, and the mountain slows to a crawl.
- **Real weather where you are** shifts the mountain weather. When it snows outside, it snows on the peak.
You cannot walk your way past a body that needs rest. That is the whole game.
**Twenty peaks across four regions.** Climb from the Nordic fells through the Alps and the Andes to the Himalaya, finishing at 8 849 m. Every peak has five camps, and every camp is a checkpoint you earn.
**Gear that matters.** Boots, ice axe, down suit, oxygen, rope, a sherpa, rations and an altimeter. Oxygen raises the floor on your stamina but never the ceiling — an exhausted climber is always slower than a rested one.
**Retire and start again stronger.** Summit the final peak of a region to retire the expedition for Renown, then spend it in Legacy on permanent upgrades that survive every reset.
**It keeps climbing while you do not.** Steps taken while the app is closed always count in full — every one of them. The expedition also makes slow progress on its own, capped at four hours plus one per sherpa, so a week away is not a free region.
**Landmarks you recognise.** "4 810 metres" means little. "You have climbed Mont Blanc" means something.
**The mountain is drawn, and the weather paints it.** Every peak is hand-authored pixel art with your route, your camps and your climber on it. Clear skies are a blue day, high stress turns the mountain into a whiteout with driven snow, and after eight in the evening the whole scene goes to night with a moon and stars. You can tell it is a bad day on the hill without reading a single number.
**A glance, not a chore.** On watches running Connect IQ 4.0 or newer, Ascent appears in your glance carousel — see how close the next camp is without opening anything.
Everything is computed and stored on your watch. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
