Dynamic Cadence
· v1.7.1
About
Dynamic Cadence is a Garmin data field that dynamically calculates your ideal target cadence in real time while running. The myth of a single universal 180 spm cadence does not apply to everyone — optimizing your stride rate depends on your height and current running pace.
Key Features:
Real-time calculation: Target cadence automatically adjusts whether you accelerate into interval sprints or slow down during recovery runs.
Height personalization: Shorter runners naturally use a higher stride rate, while taller runners with longer legs run more efficiently at a lower cadence.
Color-coded feedback: The display changes background color so you can check your target status at a glance:
Green: Optimal target zone (±5 spm from target).
Red: Cadence is below target (overstriding / heavy landing impact).
Purple: Cadence is above the target zone.
Maximum readability: Large, clear numbers designed for instant legibility on any display size and screen layout (1 to 8 data fields).
Practical Target Cadence Examples:
150 cm runner: at 6:00 pace = 174 spm | at 4:00 pace = 188 spm
175 cm runner: at 6:00 pace = 165 spm | at 4:00 pace = 179 spm
190 cm runner: at 6:00 pace = 159 spm | at 4:00 pace = 173 spm
Setup:
After installation, set your height in the app settings via the Garmin Connect smartphone app. If left unconfigured, the data field automatically reads the height stored in your Garmin user profile.
