About

This data field is designed for Audax / Brevet events. Though it will work for any cycling event where there is a known distance and maximum duration. The duration can be a target duration, if you so choose. In settings (IQ Store app - Device - Data Fields - Settings on paired phone) set the distance (in km) and duration (in hours and mins) of the target event and save them. When you start the next activity it will take the duration and add to the current time (less 5 mins) to set a deadline for the event. It will then use the distance ridden, event distance, and remianing time to work out how far ahead of the event deadline you would finish, if you now rode at the minimum speed. This is displayed as your time buffer, and gives you a real time indication of how much time you can afford to stop at the next control, to stay ahead of the time limits. Do not update the settings mid activity unless you deliberly want to reset everything, including how far you have ridden. There are limitations. If you go off route and ride extra km, then it will overestimate how much time buffer you have. If you manage to find a short cut, then it will underestimate how much buffer you have. Note this is only a guide and you should try and keep a buffer that you are comfortable with, such as 3 to 5 hours. This data field will work across multi day events such as LEL, even if you turn your GPS off when sleeping etc, it remembers how far you have ridden since you started.
