About

This app pulls map images through your phone. You can select if you would prefer the map images to come from Google Maps or Open Street Maps. You can also zoom in/out on the map. If using a touch screen capable device a + and - should show on screen, otherwise the up/down buttons will control zoom. Breadcrumbs are generated every 30 seconds. On larger watch faces the image will be centered. makeImageRequest cannot return a 218x218 image (too large error). You can provide a custom color scheme for Google Maps. Color options include white, lt_gray, dk_gray, black, red, dk_red, orange, yellow, green, dk_green, blue, dk_blue, pink. If you specify an invalid color then the Google map default will be used. I recommend assigning colors or else the map images go through dithering and are much harder to read. If using Open Street Maps you cannot customize the color scheme of the map. This is due to limitations in the OSM api (it doesn't support custom colorings). The color settings will only apply to maps obtained from Google maps. I have removed support for 230, 235, 630 and 920 watches. These watches seem to not complete image requests. Once the app has become stable and more full-featured I may return to these watches and try to get with interested parties and see if we can get the app working on these devices. This app does NOT currently record activity files!!! This is due to image requests infrequently causing the simulator to crash. I would hate for someone to be in the middle of a workout and loose all of their workout data because the app crashed somewhere within the make image request code. If the platform seems stable an people don't have issues with crashes on actual watches I will add activity recording. In my testing (Vivoactive w Nexus 5x) it takes about 10 to 15 seconds to load a map. The map is zoomed out enough to cover about half of a mile and worked well in my running/walking tests (biking may be too fast). This app uses features not supported until version 1.2 of Connect IQ. The app is build using the 1.2.5 SDK. If you are having issues with the app it is strongly recommended to update your watch to the latest and greatest firmware. v1.4 - Blue dot replaced with blue arrow showing direction you are moving. Blue dot still shown for initial GPS point. Removed 920 support. v1.3 - setting added to pull Open Street Maps instead of Google Maps v1.2 - added breadcrumb trail, user configurable color scheme, centered image, screen clear v1.1 - added zoom v1.0 - initail release Note: The app does not work in the simulation environment for any non-square watches (i.e. it only works on the vivoactive(HR) and Epix). It appears the simulator does not currently properly parse the available colors you pass into a makeImageRequest which causes simulation failure. The app does seem to work for most people with a Fenix 3. However, it is possible that the limitations of makeImageRequest extend beyond the simulator for the Forerunner watches as previous versions that supported these watches never returned images. Disclaimer: This app requests map images through your phone, which will use cellular data. I am not responsible for any charges incurred using this app.
