About

Hi, this app is free to use, but I would appreciate a review (no text necessary). The variety of uses people have for this app astound me and I'd love to hear about yours! Simple app which calculates your distance of a lightning strike or any other event based based on both visible and audible actions. I'm a hobbyist developer and I'm sharing apps developed for my own use to the community in the hopes they are of use to others. If you are not happy or if there are issues, please contact me via "contact developer" and I'll do my best to help you out, instead of leaving a bad review. How to use: 1. Open the app 2. When you see a lightning strike, press select or tap the screen to begin the timer and calculate your distance from the initial strike. 3. When you hear the thunder from that strike, press select or tap the screen to stop the timer and the show the final distance the strike was from you. The same applies for any other events - press start when you SEE the event, and stop when you HEAR it. EG: Start when you see a firecracker explode, and stop when you hear it to work out how far away it is. 4. Press next or swipe up to reset the timer. You can use the menu to change a number of settings: - Wording changes between 'Lightning' or generic telemeter mode. - Distance Units (Metric or Imperial) - Temperature Units (Celsius or Fahrenheit) - Calculation Type (STP *Standard Temperature & Pressure* or Temperature Adjusted). - Temperature Origin (Garmin Tempe Sensor or Garmin Weather). Notes on calculations: 1. Air between the strike and you is assumed to be an ideal gas 2. Default calculation type is STP which for which the temperature is 20°C or 68°F 3. Using Temp Correction will pull the temperature value directly from a Garmin Tempe sensor or from Garmin Weather. If external temp information is unavailable, the app will default to using STP values for calculations. Even more notes: I thought it would just be interesting to see how the air temperature affects the speed of sound and to allow others to see that as well, otherwise, the temp correction doesn't really make that much difference and standard values are more than accurate enough for any real life usage. As an example the difference in speed of sound in air from 20°C (STP) to 30°C (temp corrected) is only +6m/s, so depending on how far away your strike or event is you aren't looking at a huge difference in the calculated distance. IE. A strike 10 seconds away has a difference of 60m overall between the calculations. You can see the difference in speed by looking at the value in brackets next to the speed of sound at the bottom of the screen. If you run into any problems please let me know via the contact developer link with as much info as possible and I will get resolved for you.
